Who is Cain?

1958 Edition;

Mormon Doctrine, pg 108; “Though he was a rebel and an associate of Lucifer in pre-existence, and though he was a liar from the beginning whose name was Perdition, Cain managed to attain the privilege of mortal birth… he came out in open rebellion, fought God, worshipped Lucifer, and slew Abel…As a result of his rebellion, Cain was cursed with a dark skin; he became the father of the Negroes, and those spirits who were not worthy to receive the priesthood are born through his lineage.”

2001 Gospelink Program;

Mormon Doctrine pg 108; “See –>DEVIL, –>HAM, –>MASTER MAHAN, –>NEGROES, –>PERDITION, –>SONS OF PERDITION, –>UNPARDONABLE SIN. Though he was a rebel and an associate of Lucifer in pre-existence and though he was a liar from the beginning whose name was perdition, Cain managed to attain the privilege of mortal birth. Under Adam’s tutelage, he began in this life to serve God. He understood the gospel and the plan of salvation, was baptized, received the priesthood, had a perfect knowledge of the position and perfection of God, and talked personally with Deity. Then he came out in open rebellion, fought God, worshiped Lucifer, and slew Abel”.

Holman’s Bible Dictionary;

CAIN (kayin) Personal name meaning, “acquisition.” The firstborn son of Adam and Eve (Gen. 4:1)…Cain was a farmer, and his brother Abel was a shepherd. When the two men each brought an offering to the Lord, Abel’s was accepted; but Cain’s was not. Subsequently, Cain murdered Abel his brother. In punishment, God took from him the ability to till the ground productively and made him to be a wandering vagabond. God marked him off to protect him from anyone seeking to avenge Abel’s murder.

Genesis 4:1; “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.”

Today we’re looking at what the Bible says about Cain, who he was and what he did to get himself into so much trouble.

We’re also taking a look at the history of the LDS Church’s explanation of Cain. As you can see their analysis has evolved over the years.

If these revelations about Cain were from God why have they changed? And just how did he understand the gospel?

Where in the Bible does it say he’s the father of black people or that his name is perdition?
