Other Men’s Wives

Journal of Discourses 2:13-14; “What would a man of God say, who felt aright, when Joseph asked him for his money? He would say, “Yes, and I wish I had more to help to build up the kingdom of God.” Or if he came and said, “I want your wife?” “O yes,” he would say, “here she is, there are plenty more… Did the Prophet Joseph want every man’s wife he asked for? He did not, but in that thing was the grand thread of the Priesthood developed. The grand object in view was to try the people of God, to see what was in them. If such a man of God should come to me and say, “I want your gold and silver, or your wives,” I should say, “Here they are, I wish I had more to give you, take all I have got.” A man who has got the Spirit of God, and the light of eternity in him, has no trouble about such matters.” – Jedidiah M. Grant, Salt Lake City, February 19, 1854

1 Corinthians 7:2; “…to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”

Joseph had tricked so many people into believing God had revealed this disgusting deed to him. The truth is that Smith had an insatiable desire for sex and it mattered not if they were married, single, young or old. If he saw a pretty girl or woman he suddenly came up with another revelation.

With the way Mormon leaders today revere him you have to wonder if they’d be so quick to give up their wives like Grant did then. (Grant by the way ended up becoming the seventh prophet/president of the Church and the last prophet who practiced polygamy.

..and to this day, many other men in other religions have done the very same thing-attaching the God-given right to the sexual abuse, etc. Smith didn’t invent this must must have read about it somewhere in history and decided that this was great stuff to make into a ‘revalation’.

What suffering even to this day is in the polygamy relationship. Fear and suppression of women, and more in the name of religion. Thanks for getting the word out that the God of the Bible requires NO SUCH thing!
