Mormon Dilemma 318
Inspired of God?
Moroni 1:4; “Wherefore, I write a few more things, contrary to that which I had supposed; for I had supposed not to have written any more; but I write a few more things, that perhaps they may be of worth unto my brethren, the Lamanites, in some future day, according to the will of the Lord.”
John 8:44; “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
Think about it – these guys are engraving “scripture” into brass and gold plates. How reasonable is it that God Himself would have someone engrave something like the Mormon verse above?
If he’s “supposed” that he would’ve written less then this is his idea of what should be written, not God’s idea, making it not inspired of God.
If he’s been directed by God to write why wouldn’t he already know they’d be of worth for “his brethren the Lamanite”?
As Jesus so eloquently put it, he is of his father the devil.
For the Mormon:
Does this verse help you in the days you’re feeling lowly or the days of distress in your life?
Does it help you remember God is there for you and holds your salvation firmly in His hand?
Where do these names come from? lamanites, moroni, etc. I never heard them or read of them in the Bible or elsewhere.
Well…..they’re not in the Bible – some names like Nephi are in the Apocrypha. I think in the book of Judith. Moroni is either made up or Smith stole it from a map. There’s an island of Moroni which is part the Camorro (sp) Islands. Places like Onidah in the BoM sound very similar to names of towns in NY like Oneida….so you can see where he probably got that one as well as other names that might be similar to regions or towns, etc.
