Stephen Burnett Will Preach with Nothing Amiss
D&C 80:1, 3; “Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you my servant Stephen Burnett: Go ye, go ye into the world and preach the gospel to every creature that cometh under the sound of your voice. 3 Wherefore, go ye and preach my gospel, whether to the north or to the south, to the east or to the west, it mattereth not, for ye cannot go amiss.”
Prophecy given in Hiram, OH in March 1832. History of the Church 1:257.
Mr. Burnett was converted in November 1830. By the time 1838 rolled around he wrote a letter to Lyman Johnson declaring Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon liars. Apparently something had indeed come amiss. http://saintswithouthalos.com/w/1838_burnett_johnson.phtml
You are confused about what this prophecy says. Reread verse 3 and you will see that the promise was that all would be well no matter which missionary field he choose to serve in. The promise was limited to the small time period of his mission. It says nothing about his latter life, like you think it dose.

It is also not a prophecy, but a command to preach the gospel. It does not predict future events, as a prophecy would. It merely tells Stephen to go and preach, and it doesn’t matter where he does this.
