False Prophecies of Joseph Smith

Polygamy NOT Allowed

D&C 42:22; “Thou shalt love thy wife with all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto her and none else.”

Revelation given in Kirtland, OH on February 9, 1831. History of the Church 1:148-154.

Oh my, what a tangled web we weave…

You’ll want to read D&C 132:4-7, 16-17…never mind, just read the whole thing through.

Here’s a list of Joseph Smith’s wives. http://lifeafterministry.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/joseph-smiths-wives-5/

For a list of other Church leaders and their wives see our articles on polygamy and Mormon Church Leaders here beginning with Brigham Young http://lifeafterministry.wordpress.com/2011/05/20/polygamy-and-mormon-church-leaders/

Also see D&C 49:16.

If you read the entire section you will realize that it is basically reviewing the Ten Commandments. This is actually stated in verse 28. What is meant by this is to not commit adultery, which is impossible if you are legally married. Thus it does not state that Polygamy is wrong, though it may state that at the time it was given the practice was not yet permitted.
