Tip of the Day, September 30

30 September

September 30 – Isaiah 9:6; “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

This particular passage in Isaiah is an old stand-by for me.  The ninth chapter of Isaiah is sometimes called ‘The Book of Immanuel’ chapter.  The transliteration for Immanuel is God With Us.  El is God; im is with; mano is us.  If you believe there are many gods, you’re a polytheist.  You don’t have to worship them; you just have to believe there are many gods.  Don’t allow the Mormon to tell you they’re monotheists.  They believe they can become gods themselves, thus, the qualification as polytheists.

“There is much said about God and the Godhead. The scriptures say there are Gods many and Lords many, but to us there is but one living and true God, and the heaven of heavens could not contain him; for he took the liberty to go into other heavens. The teachers of the day say that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God, and they are all in one body and one God. Jesus prayed that those that the Father had given him out of the world might be made one in them, as they were one [one in spirit, in mind, in purpose]. If I were to testify that the Christian world were wrong on this point, my testimony would be true.”  Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 311.
