Tip of the Day, September 3

03 September

September 3 – 1 Peter 1:24-25; “For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

Where in this passage does it say the words of God were only for those at that time?  If it was only for that time why does the Church only use selected passages that suit them?

This is one of the biggest things that breaks my heart regarding Mormonism.  How can you go through your life without trusting your Bible?

Where do you go for comfort when you’ve lost a child or when your doctor gives you a terminal diagnosis?

How do you know what God would want to say to you over such things?

How do you know about His covenants or the sequence of events for the week Jesus died?

Also point out to the Mormon what the text says.  It says the glory of man withers away like the flower on the grass.

This is exactly the opposite of what Mormonism teaches!  They teach that man will become a god if you work hard and long enough here on earth. Every single thing in those two verses are diametrically opposed to Mormonism.

“The words contained in this Bible are merely a history of what is gone by; it was never given to guide the servant of God in the course he should pursue, any more than the words and commandments of God, given to a generation under one set of circumstances, would serve for another generation under another set of circumstances. There must be something to suggest or to draw forth the command to answer the circumstance under which we are placed at the time.”  Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses,26 vols., 2: 75.
