Now many times the Mormon people were in trouble with the law in the cities they lived in. FromIllinois, toMissouri,New York, andOhio, they were pushed out of various towns because of their blasphemous ways. They called it persecution, but the law said it was blasphemy against God, which at the time was illegal. In addition to this charge Smith was also in trouble for polygamy, treasure seeking, declaring Martial Law and arson as well as other illegal activities. Today’s verse deals with yet another false prophecy, for the Mormon’s “Zion” is now in Utah, not Missouri.
D&C 57:1-2; “…who have assembled yourselves together, according to my commandments, in this land, which is the land of Missouri, which is the land I have appointed and consecrated for the gathering of the saints. Wherefore, this is the land of promise, and the place for the city of Zion”.
