Cain Cursed with no Priesthood, Black Skin & Flat Nose

Journal of Discourses 7:290; “…and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race—that they should be the “servant of servants;” and they will be, until that curse is removed…That curse will remain upon them, and they never can hold the Priesthood or share in it until all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises and enjoyed the blessings of the Priesthood and the keys thereof.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 9, 1859

Deuteronomy  18:20-22; “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”

Wow – where do we begin? There are many false prophecies within this statement so let’s look at them one by one.

Mr. Young stated here that Cain was black. How does he know this? Where in the Bible does it clearly teach this?

The phrase “servant of servants” comes from Genesis 9:25 when Noah cursed Ham’s son Canaan because of the sin Ham had committed in dishonoring his father.

In Gen. 9:25-27 it says Canaan would be a servant to his brothers. It doesn’t say the curse was passed on after that generation.

“25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. 27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.”

Regarding the priesthood. The priesthood didn’t come into effect in the manner the Church is suggesting until the time of Moses and Aaron. Mr. Young’s timeline is off by roughly 800 years.

Ham was born circa BC 2450 – 2443

Moses was born circa BC 1575 – 1570

This serves as another false prophecy because the blacks were granted the priesthood in 1978 and all you have to do is look around…black people are still being born today. The world hasn’t ended and blacks have the priesthood.

And last but not least…

Ham and Canaan would have been ineligible to hold the priesthood regardless of any curse the Mormons believe may have been placed upon them.

The ancestors of Moses and Aaron were Semitic, meaning they came from Shem, not Ham. In order to hold the priesthood you had to come from the lineage of Levi which Aaron did and he came from Shem.
