Leaving Mormonism brings many new discoveries, some more shocking than others. This particular subject matter was one of the most surprising for me based on its brazen audacity to openly lie to the Mormon people.

Little did I know as a Mormon, the Church has spent an extraordinary amount of time retro-engineering their beloved founder’s prophetic wisdom. Not only have they done this with their signature canon, the BoM, but they went so far as to touch up the Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, Joe Smith’s History, and even the History of the Church as well.

We know they’ve rewritten the canon simply because they’ve told us so in their release of the ‘Joseph Smith Papers’, which contains sidebar notes telling us of the revisions.

Today we’re checking out their ‘handiwork’ by comparing the Book of Commandments written in 1833, with the Doctrine and Covenants which they’ve dated as 1828. (As an FYI, their spelling errors have been left intact.)

There are a couple of items to take note of in this –

1.The modern version of D&C 10:1 contains the phrase ‘Urim and Thummim’, and the first writing in Book of Commandments doesn’t mention this at all.

2.The Urim and Thummim they’re referring to is the use of Smith’s ‘seer stone’ he used when digging for buried treasure at Josiah Stowell’s property. (We’ll take a look at that subject matter tomorrow.)

Questions –

If the urim and thummim were so important, why weren’t they part of the original prophecy Joe received from God?

Why has the Church totally changed, rearranged, and misguided LDS members about this?

Moreover, why would a seer stone be used by a godly person when it’s in fact a form of witchcraft?

Tomorrow we’re looking at the truth about Urim and Thummim. It’s definitely not what the Church has tried to portray!
