Most Important Mormon Prophet isn’t Jesus

25 June

Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet, Speeches of the Year, 1980, p. 27; “The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet. … Many people in our own time also revere prophets of the past but refuse to accept the prophet the Lord has sent to guide them today. The most important prophet, so far as you and I are concerned, is the living one in our day and age to whom the Lord is currently revealing His will for us.” –  Ezra Taft Benson

Deuteronomy 18:18 “I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.”

As I write this, it’s June 22nd, and I couldn’t stop thinking about one Mormon’s response to a post on Facebook we received earlier in the week. His words reminded me of what Mr. Benson said in our reference today. In a nutshell he stated if the prophet said something, it was truth no matter what, and he’d follow it.

My heart grieves for those with this mindset. How unfortunate it is they won’t open the Bible, and look to God instead of man. I know all too well the pull of not wanting to look at the contradictions of Mormonism, and Christianity. I lied for the Church, defended their lies, and rejected all ‘outsider’ information presented to me.

I did that for 29+ yrs, and finally came to the end of myself. My fear of losing family, friends, and a substantial inheritance finally took a backseat to a fear I’d lose Jesus.

We’re praying for this man, and know our Christian friends will too.

If you’re LDS, how would you answer Jesus’ question below?

Matthew 16:26 “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
