Are Mormons True Bible Believers?

24 November

1 Peter 1:25; “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

General Conference, ‘The Miracle of the Holy Bible,’ April 2007

“We are true and full believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His revealed word through the Holy Bible.

It is a miracle that we have the Bible’s powerful doctrine, principles, poetry, and stories. But most of all, it is a wonderful miracle that we have the account of the life, ministry, and words of Jesus, which was protected through the Dark Ages and through the conflicts of countless generations so that we may have it today.

Mr. Ballard made a ton of comments in his 2007 speech about God’s word so today we’re looking at just 3-4 of them. To read his entire transcript the link is above. Once again, we’re asking for a lot of prayer for the Mormon people about this talk! My own mother actually mentioned something about this talk the other day and I just wanted to die…they don’t believe a single thing he said.

If they believed the information given above, why did they say the following?

Bible has Errors, Book of Mormon does not

The Joseph Smith Translation, p. 12; “…the Book of Mormon remains secure, unchanged and unchangeable, a firm and steady witness of Christ and his doctrine. The Book of Mormon has been, is now, and will forever remain secure in the hands of the servants of the Lord, for which we are immeasurably grateful. But with the Bible it was not and is not so. It is now in the hands of intellectuals and unbelievers and ministers whose delight it is to twist and pervert its doctrines and to spiritualize away the plain meanings of all its important parts. And it once was in the sole and exclusive care and custody of an abominable organization, founded by the devil himself, likened prophetically unto a great whore, whose great aim and purpose was to destroy the souls of men in the name of religion.” – Monte S. Nyman, Charles D. Tate, Jr.

Ballard went on to state

“It is a miracle that the Bible literally contains within its pages the converting, healing Spirit of Christ, which has turned men’s hearts for centuries, leading them to pray, to choose right paths, and to search to find their Savior.”

This isn’t what his founding prophet proclaimed!

Profits You Little – Encyclopedia of Joseph Smith’s Teachings

Encyclopedia of Joseph Smith’s Teachings, pg 73; “You may hug up to yourselves the Bible, but, except through faith in it you get revelation for yourself, the Bible will profit you but little. (Hyrum L. Andrus and Helen Mae Andrus, comps., They Knew the Prophet, p. 101)”

What about the words of Peter?

1 Peter 1:25; “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

Ballard also gave reasons why the Bible is holy –

The Holy Bible is well named. It is holy because it teaches truth, holy because it warms us with its spirit, holy because it teaches us to know God and understand His dealings with men, and holy because it testifies throughout its pages of the Lord Jesus Christ.

It’s ‘holy because it warms us with its spirit’? Seriously…how does this make God’s word holy? Goose-bump moments aren’t proof something is holy! Besides, one of their apostles stated the Bible is corrupt. How can something that’s holy be corrupt at the same time?

Bible is Corrupt – Orson Pratt

Pamphlets By Orson Pratt, pg 71; “The Bible in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, and indeed, in all the languages of the earth, except the original in which it was given, is not the word of God, but the word of uninspired translators…

Last, but not least, Ballard made the following statement –

It is not by chance or coincidence that we have the Bible today. Righteous individuals were prompted by the Spirit to record both the sacred things they saw and the inspired words they heard and spoke. …

The Essential Orson Pratt, pp 150-151; “The gathering together of the few scattered manuscripts which compose what is now termed the Bible was the work of uninspired man which took place centuries after John finished his manuscript…

Obviously, Mr. Pratt had other things in mind when it came to their opinion of our Lord’s holy  writ.

Please, as you meet with family and friends this holiday, share the truth of how reliable, and trustworthy God’s word is and how you personally apply it to your everyday life!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
