Cain Became Perdition

Doctrines of Salvation 2:280; Satan wanted him because Cain had a body, He wanted more power. A man with a body of course will have greater power than just a spirit without a body.  Cain sinned with his eyes open, so he became Perdition, the father of lies.

Exodus 20:11; For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Where in the Bible does it say the things the LDS Church claims here?  My what a tangled web we weave…

Cain, Mark of

Way to Perfection, pg. 106; President Woodruff, in his journal, records the words of President Young as follows:  The Lord said, I will not kill Cain, but I will put a mark upon him, and that mark will be seen upon the face of every negro upon the face of the earth; and it is the decree of God that that mark shall remain upon the seed of Cain until the seed of Abel shall be redeemed, and Cain shall not receive the Priesthood, until the time of that redemption. Any man having one drop of the seed of Cain in him cannot receive the Priesthood; but the day will come when all that race will be redeemed and possess all the blessings which we now have.-History of Wilford Woodruff, p. 351.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

Genesis 4:11, 15; And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand  15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

What in the world?  Why would anyone born of God say such awful things about an entire race of people, God’s creation?

Cain to Rule Over Satan

Doctrines of Salvation 2:279; CAIN TO RULE OVER SATAN. Sons of perdition will have an ascendancy over Satan himself, because he has no body. But who is Perdition? The Lord said to Cain: “If thou doest well, thou shalt be accepted. And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door, and Satan desireth to have thee; and except thou shalt hearken unto my commandments, I will deliver thee up, and it shall be unto thee according to his desire. And thou shalt rule over him; For from this time forth thou shalt be the father of his lies; thou shalt be called Perdition; for thou wast also before the world.”

2 Thessalonians 2:2-3; That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.  3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.

How can the sons of perdition have an ascendance over Satan if they’re from Satan?

Callings, Never Say No to

Follow the Living Prophets, pg. 253; Never say no to an opportunity to serve in the Church. If you are called to an assignment by one who has authority, there is but one answer. It is, of course, expected that you set forth clearly what your circumstances are, but any assignment that comes under call from your bishop or your stake president is a call that comes from the Lord…Once called to such positions, do not presume to set your own date of release. A release is in effect another call. Men do not call themselves to offices in the Church.

Prov. 18:13; He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

I can assure the reader that while I love my children beyond belief, I am not the best person to be in charge of the nursery at your church.  I obviously wouldn’t harm anyone but it wouldn’t be much fun or do anyone any good to have me there.  God calls us to our ministries, not man.

Callings

Marion Romney said in Ensign, July 1973, pg. 89;No one should seek to be appointed to any particular office in the Church. Such an aspiration is not a righteous desire; it is a self-serving ambition…We should demonstrate that desire by living the gospel and diligently performing whatever service we are called upon to render. Holding a particular office in the Church will never save a person. One’s salvation depends upon how well he discharges the duties of the service to which he is called.

To be called or to receive a calling to serve in the Church simply means the bishop will call someone when a position needs to be filled, i.e. Sunday school teacher, Young Men’s group, etc.  As you can see it is not that God has called that person to be a youth pastor for his life or a choir director; as a result the Church is filled with people ill-equipped in leadership roles.

2 Cor. 4:1-2; Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;  2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

So if God calls you to be the tech person for the local congregation that is considered self-serving?  The Mormon Church dictates each job to the people in order to control them lest their own personalities come shining forth.

Capital Punishment in Utah

DS 1:136; “…the founders of Utah incorporated in the laws of the Territory provisions for the capital punishment of those who willfully shed the blood of their fellow men. This law, which is now the law of the State, granted unto the condemned murderer the privilege of choosing for himself whether he die by hanging, or whether he BE SHOT, AND THUS HAVE HIS BLOOD SHED IN HARMONY WITH THE LAW OF GOD; AND THUS ATONE, so far as it is in his power to atone, for the death of his victim. Almost without exception the condemned party chooses the latter death.

Luke 12:5; But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Yeah I can’t imagine why any Mormon would choose the firing squad with teachings like D&C 42:79 looming overhead.

Casting Crowns before the Throne

MD, pg. 173; Those who gain exaltation in the highest heaven of the celestial world shall wear crowns. Perhaps literal crowns may be worn on occasion — emblematic of their victory over the world and signifying that they rule and reign as kings and queens in the eternal house of Israel. But at all times they will be “crowned with honor, and glory, and immortality, and eternal life.” (D. & C. 75:5.)…In the gospel sense, a crown is the sign and symbol of eternal exaltation and dominion, of godhood in the kingdom of God. Our Lord has been seen in vision wearing “a golden crown” (Rev. 14:14; 6:2; 19:12), and those surrounding the throne of Deity have been seen similarly identified. (Rev. 4:4, 10.)…”

Revelation 4:10-11; The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

There is and always will be only one King over Israel, Christ Jesus.  The crowns will be thrown back to Him signifying the devotion to our King.

Celestial Marriage

Doctrines of Salvation 2:62; CELESTIAL MARRIAGE MAKES GODS IN ETERNITY. But if we are married for time and for all eternity and it is sealed upon our heads by those who have the authority so to seal, and if we then keep our covenants and are faithful to the end, we shall come forth in the resurrection from the dead and receive the following promised blessings:

“Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.”

Galatians 5:24; And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

PRAISE GOD that I won’t have to worry about being married in heaven!!!!!!!!!!!

Chairs or No Chairs in Temple

Mosiah 11:11; And the seats which were set apart for the high priests, which were above all the other seats, he did ornament with pure gold; and he caused a breastwork to be built before them, that they might rest their bodies and their arms upon while they should speak lying and vain words to his people.

1 Kings chapters 6-7 says nothing about chairs in the temple.  The only “seat” mentioned is the Mercy Seat which made of gold, covered the Ark of the Covenant and is where the priests would sprinkle blood on the Day of Atonement each year.

The only other time the word “seat” is mentioned concerning holy places is when Jesus sat down at the right hand of God, signifying His work was finished and being on the right side signifying a favored position.

Child Bearing Necessary

Articles of Faith, pg. 402; Grand as may seem the achievements of a man who is truly great, the culmination of his glorious career lies in his leaving posterity to continue, and enhance the triumphs of their sire. And if such be true of mortals with respect to the things of earth, transcendently greater is the power of eternal increase, as viewed in the light of revealed truth concerning the unending progresssion of the future state. Truly the apostle was wise when he said: “Neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.”

Titus 3:4-7; But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Having sex and giving birth certainly cannot be the greatest thing I could ever offer to God.

Child Bearing; Is it Really the Works of the Lord?

Joseph Fielding Smith said this in DS 2:88; President Brigham Young has this to say about birth control, an abomination practiced by so-called civilized nations, but nations who have forsaken the ways of life:  There are multitudes of pure and holy spirits waiting to take tabernacles, now what is our duty? To prepare tabernacles for them; to take a course that will not tend to drive those spirits into the families of the wicked, where they will be trained in wickedness, debauchery, and every species of crime. It is the duty of every righteous man and woman to prepare tabernacles for all the spirits they can.”

John 6:28-29; Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?  29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

As Christians we may disagree about birth control but we all know the Mormon teachings on spirits waiting to take bodies is ungodly and not true.

Child of God

MD, pg. 745; In one sense, the sons of God are the spirit offspring of the Father, the ones who “shouted for joy” when “the foundations of the earth” were laid. (Job 38:1-7.) But in a more particular and express sense, they are the ones who accept Christ and his laws and press forward in devotion to truth and righteousness, living “by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God” (D. & C. 84:44), until they become new creatures of the Holy Ghost and are thus spiritually begotten of God.

Romans 8:14-17; For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.  15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

We are not the spiritual offspring of God.  We are adopted into His arms.  God did not have sex.

Children Cannot Sin

D&C 29:46-47; But behold, I say unto you, that little children are redeemed from the foundation of the world through mine Only Begotten; 47 Wherefore, they cannot sin, for power is not given unto Satan to tempt little children, until they begin to become accountable before me.

Romans 5:12; Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.

Man if this passage in D&C is true then God owes me an explanation about my kids.

Children Cannot Sin

Journal of Discourses 6:31-32; Was that spirit a wicked spirit when it was organized and brought into existence? No—no more than our little children are sinners.” – Heber C. Kimball, November 8, 1857, Salt Lake City

Romans 3:23; For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

As I’ve stated before I never had to teach my kids how to lie or throw a temper tantrum.

Children (Sons) of God

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 745; Those who receive the gospel and join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have power given them to become the sons of God. (D. & C. 11:30; 35:2; 39:1-6; 45:8; John 1:12.) Sonship does not come from church membership alone, but admission into the Church opens the door to such high status, if it is followed by continued faith and devotion. (Rom. 8:14-18; Gal. 3:26-29; 4:1-7.) The sons of God are members of his family and, hence, are joint-heirs with Christ, inheriting with him the fulness of the Father. (D. & C. 93:17-23.) Before gaining entrance to that glorious household, they must receive the higher priesthood (Moses 6:67-68), magnify their callings therein (D. & C. 84:33-41), enter into the new and everlasting covenant of marriage (D. & C. 131:1-4; 132), and be obedient in all things. (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 2, pp. 8-9, 37-41, 59, 64-65.) Those who become the sons of God in this life (1 John 3:1-3) are the ones who by enduring in continued righteousness will be gods in eternity. (D. & C. 76:58.)

Romans 8:14; For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

The Bible NEVER says that we will become gods in eternity.

The Bible NEVER says we have to join a certain religion to become sons of God.

Children of God

Journal of Discourses 4:216; There is not a person here to-day but what is a son or a daughter of that Being. In the spirit world their spirits were first begotten and brought forth, and they lived there with their parents for ages before they came here. This, perhaps, is hard for many to believe, but it is the greatest nonsense in the world not to believe it. If you do not believe it, cease to call Him Father; and when you pray, pray to some other character.” – Brigham Young, February 8, 1857

Galatians 3:29; And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

I always tell people that Mormonism is based upon two principles: sex and godhood.  The entry above is case in point.

Children of God

Ensign, May 2006, pg. 106; Your light has made a difference to me and many others. You have light because you are literally spirit daughters of Deity, “offspring of exalted parents” with a divine nature and an eternal destiny.  You received your first lessons in the world of spirits from your heavenly parents. You have been sent to earth to “prove” yourselves.” – Julie Beck

John 1:12-13; But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Mormons will never accept their relationship with God as His children is based upon what was spoken of by John in the above passage.  They’ve bought into this horrific lie that it is through a sexual union with a goddess wife they came into being.  This is nothing but a lie from the pit of hell.

Chosen People of the Lord

This is the Truth, pg. 67; When you are baptized you are numbered among the chosen people of the Lord not because the Lord has chosen you but because you have chosen Him.

1 John 4:19; We love him, because he first loved us.

Jesus doesn’t suddenly notice us because we might decide to obey – He’s always been there waiting for us patiently.

Christ

Gordon B. Hinckley, LDS Church News, June 20, 1998, p. 7;The traditional Christ of whom they [evangelical Christians] speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. He together with His Father, appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in the year 1820, and when Joseph left the grove that day, he knew more of the nature of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages.

Mark 13:21-22; And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: 22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

Rev. 22:12-13; “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. 13“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

Hinckley’s statement couldn’t be any clearer – they are not worshipping the Jesus of the Bible.

Christ Suffered in Proportion to Intelligence

Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:115; A person possessing the power of the Gods has that power to sustain him in all his trials and sufferings. He has power and faith to endure unto sweating blood, to bearing thorns, and to being nailed upon a cross, as patiently as did our Saviour. Is this speaking disparagingly of his character? Not in the least. Many of our people have suffered unto death. Could a God do more? He could not. Could he suffer more? Only in proportion to his intelligence, faith, and power, which also proportionally sustain him in his sufferings.” – Salt Lake City, July 8, 1860

1 Corinthians 1:23, 25; But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

I am so grateful I don’t have whatever power from the gods that Brigham Young is speaking about!  Their gods are nothing.

Christians & Mormons

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 271; Traditional Christianity often defines Christian affiliation as the acceptance of certain beliefs and dogmas. Because Latter-day Saints do not accept certain extrascriptural dogmas-especially those bearing the philosophical overlay of much post-New Testament Christian teaching-some in other churches feel that Latter-day Saints cannot be Christian. They are not “orthodox” in this sense. But for the Mormon, right beliefs (orthodoxy) and right behaviors (orthopraxy) are those congruent with the revealed mind and will of the Lord. Some of the misunderstandings between traditional communities and the Latter-day Saints arise from this issue: whether Christians must first believe traditional, especially credal, dogmas in order to live “correct Christian lives.”

Philippians 1:6; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

No, Christians believe in what the Bible says.  The writings by the church fathers in the early years serve as a statement of what is in the Bible, not the other way around.

Christian Churches on Earth for Centuries, None

Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses 18:172; But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be. They say, “We have built chapels unto the name of the Lord; we call our Churches Christian Churches, they are called the Church of Christ, St. John’s Church, St. Paul’s Church, St. Peter’s Church, and after others of the ancient Apostles;” and one who had never studied the pattern which God has given of the Christian Church would almost really believe that they are Christian Churches.” – Salt Lake City, March 26, 1876

Matthew 28:18-20; And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  19 ¶ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

This passage from the Bible serves as our ticket of authority to go out and preach salvation to mankind.  The Christian church has been here without interruption since Christ instituted it with Peter and the apostles.

185 – Christianity Corrupt as Hell

John Taylor, Journal of Discourses6:167; There is not nation now that acknowledges that hand of God; there is not a king, potentate, nor ruler that acknowledges his jurisdiction. We talk about Christianity, but it is a perfect pack of nonsense. Men talk about civilization; but I do not want to say much about that, for I have seen enough of it. Myself and hundreds of the Elders around me have seen its pomp, parade, and glory; and what is it? It is a sounding brass and a tinkling symbol; it is as corrupt as hell; and the Devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work that the Christianity of the nineteenth century.

Acts 5:41-42; And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.  42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

What an awful thing to say about the body of Christ.  May God have mercy.

Christian Churches, Respect and Appreciation for

Ensign, May 2009, pg. 37; Our leaders have consistently counseled us ‘to live with respect and appreciation for those not of our faith. There is so great a need for civility and mutual respect among those of differing beliefs and philosophies’ (Gordon B. Hinckley, “This Is the Work of the Master,” Ensign, May 1995, 71). “It is equally important that we be loving and kind to members of our own faith, regardless of their level of commitment or activity.” – Quentin L. Cook

2 Timothy 2:19; Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

If the statement by Mr. Cook held any truth to it at all, then why pray tell does the Mormon Church try to convert Christians into their organization?  Don’t be fooled my friends.

Christian Churches without the Holy Ghost

Learning for the Eternities, pg. 107-108;When the Prophet Joseph Smith was asked the difference between the Latter-day Saint Church and the sectarian churches of the world, he said, “We have the Holy Ghost,” by which he meant that by the power of the Holy Ghost the will of our Father is revealed to the minds of the leaders of the Church. So I repeat, What the prophet says is what the Lord would say if he were here, and it is scripture. It should be studied, understood, and followed, even as are the revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants and other scriptures.

Acts 1:8; But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

John 14:16-17; And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

So would Jesus call His bride a whore?

Christianity, Darkness Covered the Whole Earth

D&C 112:23;Verily, verily, I say unto you, darkness covereth the earth, and gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has become corrupt before my face.

1 Thessalonians 5:21; Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Mormons have been taught they can’t trust in God to do the things He says He’ll do, thus the lies about the Christian church among other things.

Christianity Hatched in Hell

Journal of Discourses 6:176;Brother Taylor has just said that the religions of the day were hatched in hell. The eggs were laid in hell, hatched on its borders, and then kicked on to the earth.” – Brigham Young

Matthew 16:18; And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

I’ve often wondered what Jesus’ reaction would be to the LDS teachings about the body of Christ.  I just can’t imagine Jesus thinking that His bride was “hatched in hell”.

Christians are Pagans

Orson Pratt, JD 14:346; This class of men, calling themselves Christian, uniting with the various forms of the pagan religion, adopting many of their ceremonies and institutions, became very popular, and finally some of the pagans embraced Christianity and were placed, as it were, upon the throne, and what they termed Christianity became very popular indeed. How long has this order of things existed, this dreadful apostacy, this class of people that pronounced themselves Zion, or Christians, without any of the characteristics of Zion? It has existed for some sixteen or seventeen centuries.” – Salt Lake City, March 10, 1872

John 14:16-18; And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Have you ever noticed the charges against the Christian church are generalized with no concrete example of how they’ve been in error?  Throw anything against the wall to see what might stick…

Christians on Earth, No

Journal of Discourses 2:196-197; “I do not wish to be understood that we are now living in a dark age of the world, but for the last fourteen hundred years the world have been enveloped in darkness, in which wickedness has ruled, and the powers of darkness have prevailed among the children of men, and the nations have been bound down by false traditions, and incorrect principles, but the day has now dawned, the dark clouds have now broken up and soon will pass away, and the sun of righteousness will arise in its glory, and show forth the light of heaven; and for that I am thankful…” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, February 25, 1855

1 John 2:8-11; Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.  9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.  10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. 11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

The Bible promises us the darkness is over!  Anything outside of that teaching is a lie!

Christians, Don’t Judge the

Ensign, May 2009, pg. 124; The Savior said: ‘A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another. . . .’By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another’ (John 13:34–35).  “Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun who worked among the poor in India most of her life, spoke this truth: ‘If you judge people, you have no time to love them.’ ” – Thomas Monson

John 13:34-35; A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Yes, love one another, but it’s a rather tough pill to swallow when your leaders are telling you to do one thing and your “scriptures” tell you another.  1 Nephi 14:10 explicitly says that other so-called Christians are the “whores of Babylon”.  Their prophet has uttered a false prophecy by proclaiming these words by contradicting himself.

Christians, Evidence of Other

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 270; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not see itself as one Christian denomination among many, but rather as God’s latter-day restoration of the fulness of Christian faith and practice…Other forms of Christianity…are viewed as incomplete, lacking the authority of the priesthood of God, the temple ordinances, the comprehensive understanding of the Plan of Salvation, and the nonparadoxical understanding of the Godhead.

1 John 3:14-15; We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.  15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

I would imagine I wasn’t the only one to be convicted of my sin when reading the passage in first John.

Christian Observances; No Recognition of in LDS Church

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 553; Among the Latter-day Saints it is the accepted practice to hail Christ as Lord, King, and Messiah, and to shout hosannas to his holy name, on all days and at all times. But it is not the common practice to single out Palm Sunday for any special commemorative worship. Rather the Latter-day Saints memorialize the transcendent events of their era, such things as the coming of John the Baptist, the restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the conferral of the sealing keys by Elijah, and the organization of the Church again on earth.

Matthew 10:32-33; Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.  33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

I don’t know of a Christian church in the world that doesn’t observe Palm Sunday.

195 – Christian; What is a

Journal of Discourses 24:140; I do not wish to reflect upon any other body of people or upon any sect; I believe there are thousands of excellent people in the world—people as good as any that are numbered in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—scattered through all the sects and in the Pagan world and in the infidel world. I do not confine my feelings of admiration to those who believe even in Jesus, the Son of God, whom I view as my Redeemer and my Savior. I believe that there are thousands, and it may be said millions of well-meaning, good people, whom God loves, that are numbered among the Pagans and that are numbered among the infidels to Christianity.” – George Q. Cannon, Logan, Utah, May 6, 1883.

Romans 8:27, 33-37; And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.  33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.  34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.  35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.  37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Who but the Muslims call the Christians “infidels” and what Christian would call a brother in Christ a “pagan”?

Christmas Season, Gratitude in the

Gordon B. Hinckley, Ensign, December 1997; This is a season for giving and a time for gratitude. We remember with appreciation the birth of the Prophet Joseph Smith, which is celebrated this same month of December, two days before Christmas…We stand in reverence before him. He is the great prophet of this dispensation. He stands at the head of this great and mighty work which is spreading across the earth. He is our prophet, our revelator, our seer, our friend. Let us not forget him. Let not his memory be forgotten in the celebration of Christmas. God be thanked for the Prophet Joseph.

Luke 2:30-32; For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.”  (Also see all of Luke chapter two.)

How could anyone actually do this?  It looks as if Hinckley threw in the Jesus factor as an afterthought when talking about the god they worship.

Church

Church and State in the Zion Curtain

Journal of Discourses 5:266; We used to have a difference between Church and State, but it is all one now. Thank God.” – Prophet John Taylor, September 20, 1857

Matthew 20:16; So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

Why is it the leaders of the Mormon Church are always thinking of being in power?  A sign of a good leader is someone with humility.

Church Can Save and Exalt Man

Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, pg. 21; This is our first interest as a Church-to save and exalt the souls of the children of men. There is no richer program anywhere in the world than we have in the Church today for the building of men and women and providing the answers to the problems that face parents, families, and individuals. (God, Family, Country, p. 43.)

2 Corinthians 4:1-5; Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.  3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.  5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

As Christians we don’t “save” or “exalt” anyone.  We are not the Savior.  As Paul pointed out in his letter to the Corinthians, we preach the gospel, this isn’t about us.

Church Established

Mosiah 18:17; And they were called the church of God, or the church of Christ, from that time forward. And it came to pass that whosoever was baptized by the power and authority of God was added to his church.– Note: this “took place” in 147 BC

Acts 1:4; And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

This small verse in Acts is a good reminder for all of us.  We should sit and wait on the Father.  Doing things outside of His will or direction causes confusion like you see in the book of Mosiah.

Church; Mormonism is Leaven to Christian Churches of Today

Teachings of Lorenzo Snow, pg. 16; Mormonism has acted as a leaven upon other religious faiths. Consciously or unconsciously they have absorbed and utilized it. This is especially manifest in the growth of liberal ideas among the Protestant churches within the last half century. (2 January 1902, MS, 64:22.)

Jude 1:4; For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

This has to be one of the most alarming things any of their prophets have ever said.  Leaven is a symbol of sin in the Bible as we all know.

Church of the Devil

Millennial Messiah, pg. 56; The church of the devil is every evil and worldly organization on earth. It is all of the systems, both Christian and non-Christian, that have perverted the pure and perfect gospel; it is all of the governments and powers that run counter to the divine will; it is the societies and political parties and labor unions that sow strife and reap contention. It is communism; it is Islam; it is Buddhism; it is modern Christianity in all its parts. It is Germany under Hitler, Russia under Stalin, and Italy under Mussolini. It is the man of sin speaking in churches, orating in legislative halls, and commanding the armies of men.” – Apostle Bruce McConkie

Matthew 13:14-15; And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: 15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

When Mormons tell you it is only the Catholics they have a problem with, share this passage with them.

Church Records, Importance of Name on

Gospel Doctrine, pg. 109; Some people may not care very much whether their names are recorded or not but this comes from ignorance of the consequences. If their names are not recorded they will not only be cut off from the assistance which they would be entitled to from the Church, if they needed it, but they will be cut off from the ordinances of the house of God; they will be cut asunder from their dead and from their fathers who have been faithful, or from those who shall come after them who shall be faithful, and they will be appointed their portion with the unbelievers, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Galatians 5:3-4; For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.  4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

I received a letter from the Church when I left Mormonism that told me I was losing the benefits of baptism so watch out.  My response?  PRAISE GOD!!!

Churches; Two Churches Only on Face of Earth

George Q. Cannon, Gospel Truth, pg. 324; After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon.

Mark 13:13; And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

With all the material we have to quote each prophet and teacher in Mormonism about this subject matter proves one thing: their hatred and disdain towards outsiders.

Civil War Prophecy

D&C 87:1-6; Verily, thus saith the Lord concerning the wars that will shortly come to pass, beginning at the rebellion of South Carolina, which will eventually terminate in the death and misery of many souls; 2 And the time will come that war will be poured out upon all nations, beginning at this place.3 For behold, the Southern States shall be divided against the Northern States, and the Southern States will call on other nations, even the nation of Great Britain, as it is called, and they shall also call upon other nations, in order to defend themselves against other nations; and then war shall be poured out upon all nations.4 And it shall come to pass, after many days, slaves shall rise up against their masters, who shall be marshaled and disciplined for war.5 And it shall come to pass also that the remnants who are left of the land will marshal themselves, and shall become exceedingly angry, and shall vex the Gentiles with a sore vexation.6 And thus, with the sword and by bloodshed the inhabitants of the earth shall mourn; and with famine, and plague, and earthquake, and the thunder of heaven, and the fierce and vivid lightning also, shall the inhabitants of the earth be made to feel the wrath, and indignation, and chastening hand of an Almighty God, until the consumption decreed hath made a full end of all nations.”

Jer. 14:14; Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility and the deception of their own minds.

The Mormons like to use this passage in the Book of Mormon as proof that Joseph Smith had a prophecy that came true.

Fact:  this passage in the Book of Mormon is a false prophecy.  In verse 2 it says that war will be poured out on all nations.  This still hasn’t happened.

Communion

Articles of Faith, pg. 159; Soon after the Church had been organized in the present dispensation, the Prophet Joseph Smith was about to purchase wine for sacramental purposes, when a messenger from God met him and delivered the following instructions: “For, behold, I say unto you, that it mattereth not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament, if it so be that ye do it with an eye single to my glory—remembering unto the Father my body which was laid down for you, and my blood which was shed for the remission of your sins. Wherefore, a commandment I give unto you, that you shall not purchase wine neither strong drink of your enemies; Wherefore, you shall partake of none except it is made new among you; yea, in this my Father’s kingdom which shall be built up on the earth.” Upon this authority, the Latter-day Saints administer water in their sacramental service, in preference to wine.

Matt. 26:26-28; And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Mormons use wonder bread and water for their sacramental elements.  Their bread contains leaven, a symbol of sin and the water is not a symbol of the shed blood of Christ.

Confounded, Denouncers are

D&C 71:10; And if any man lift his voice against you he shall be confounded in mine own due time.

1 Corinthians 1:27; But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.

Strange…thousands have left the Church and none of us have been confounded.

Contention; Don’t Contend with Other Faiths

Discourses of Joseph Smith, pg. 172; …preach Jesus Christ and him crucified; not to contend with others on account of their faith, or systems of religion, but pursue a steady course. This I delivered by way of commandment; and all who observe it not, will pull down persecution upon their heads, while those who do, shall always be filled with the Holy Ghost; this I pronounced as a prophecy, and sealed with hosanna and amen. (HC 2:431.)

Psalm 123:3-4; Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.  4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

Every Mormon missionary is breaking Joseph Smith’s rules.  When the Mormons come to your door they’re telling you that Christianity is wrong.  Isn’t that contentious?

Contention: No Disputes Concerning Christians Allowed

3 Nephi 11:28-29; And according as I have commanded you thus shall ye baptize. And there shall be no disputations among you, as there have hitherto been; neither shall there be disputations among you concerning the points of my doctrine, as there have hitherto been.  29 For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another.

1 John 4:1-3; Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.  2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

It looks like they’re disobeying their god as well when they go out to disagree with the Christians.

Contention, Spirit of

Joseph F. Smith, Conference Report, April 1908, pg. 7; Indeed the spirit of contention is a thing not known among the Latter-day Saints. You find the spirit of contention only among apostates and those who have denied the faith, those who have turned away from the truth and have become enemies to God and His work. There you will find the spirit of contention, the spirit of strife. There you will find them wanting to “argue the question,” and to dispute with you all the time.

Galatians 5:19-21; Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

So if you disagree with the Church you’re contentious?  Hmmm…

Contradictions in Doctrine (Godhead)

Mosiah 13:34; “Have they not said that God himself should come down among the children of men, and take upon him the form of man, and go forth in mighty power upon the face of the earth?”

1 Cor. 14:33; For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Why don’t Mormons believe this passage in Mosiah?

Contrary Doctrine

D&C 1:35; For I am no respecter of persons, and will that all men shall know that the day speedily cometh; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand, when peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his own dominion.

Romans 16:17-18; Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.  18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Then explain why the blacks weren’t worthy until 1978.

Convert, Questions to Ask the

Preach My Gospel, pg. 22; Elder Jeffrey R. Holland taught: “The first thing you will do when an investigator tells you he or she had not read and prayed about the Book of Mormon is be devastated! . . . Much of the time we are just too casual about all of this. This is eternal life. This is the salvation of the children of God. Eternity hangs in the balance. . . . It is the most important path this investigator will ever walk. But if he or she doesn’t know that, at least you do! . . . So take control of this situation. Teach with power and authority, and then be devastated if the first steps toward commandment-keeping and covenant-keeping have not been successfully begun”” – “Making and Keeping Covenants,” missionary satellite broadcast, Apr. 1997.

2 Corinthians 2:17; For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

Yes Mr. Holland, this is indeed eternity!  Sadly, there will be too many people who don’t question the teachings of the Church and unwillingly get snared into the trappings and lies of Satan.

Converts, Convincing the

Especially for Missionaries, Vol. 1; The degree to which we effectively help people understand how the Book of Mormon fulfills the Lord’s divine purposes is the same degree to which we will see them become convinced that Joseph Smith was a prophet. That’s the same degree to which they will be committed to continually praying and studying the Book of Mormon. And soon they will see that the Book of Mormon does lead them to Christ. So you can see the purpose and power of the Book of Mormon, the keystone of our religion.

Ephesians 3:17-19; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

There are so many things wrong with their reasoning but for now let’s just focus on the Book of Mormon being the “keystone of their religion”.  What about Jesus?

Covenant, Everlasting

Apostle Erastus Snow, Journal of Discourses 24:161-162; This new and everlasting covenant reveals unto us the keys of the Holy Priesthood and ordinances thereof. It is the grand keystone of the arch which the Lord is building in the earth. In other words, it is that which completes the exaltation and glory of the righteous who receive the everlasting Gospel, and without it they could not attain unto the eternal power and Godhead and the fullness of celestial glory.” – Parowan, Utah, June 24, 1883

Jeremiah 32:40; And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

They’ve told us the Book of Mormon is the keystone of Mormonism but here they’re saying that polygamy is the keystone of their religion.  Again, what about Jesus?

Covenants

D&C 84:41; But whoso breaketh this covenant after he hath received it, and altogether turneth there from, shall not have forgiveness of sins in this world nor in the world to come.

Jeremiah 31:33-34; But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.  34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

This covenant they’re talking about is the priesthood.  So if you reject the priesthood you can never be saved?

Covenants Broken is Death to the Soul

D&C 84:42; And wo unto all those who come not unto this priesthood which ye have received, which I now confirm upon you who are present this day, by mine own voice out of the heavens; and even I have given the heavenly hosts and mine angels charge concerning you.

Matthew 10:28; And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Their threats sound like strong arm tactics to me not a comforting promise from the Lord.

Covenant, Each Ordinance is Everlasting Covenant

Doctrines of Salvation 1:152; Each ordinance and requirement given to man for the purpose of bringing to pass his salvation and exaltation is a covenant. Baptism for the remission of sins is a covenant. When this ordinance was revealed in this dispensation, the Lord called it “a new and an everlasting covenant, even that which was from the beginning.”

Hebrews 7:23-24; And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: 24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

So many rules, so many laws & why?  Why are there so many things we must do when Jesus has done it all?

Covenant, New & Everlasting

Improvement Era, June 1945; All Latter-day Saints enter the new and everlasting covenant when they enter this Church. They covenant to cease sustaining, upholding and cherishing the kingdom of the Devil. … They enter the new and everlasting covenant to sustain the Kingdom of God. … They take a vow of the most solemn kind, before the heavens and earth, and that, too, upon the validity of their own salvation, that they will sustain truth and righteousness instead of wickedness and falsehood, and build up the Kingdom of God, instead of the kingdoms of this world.

2 Corinthians 3:14-16; But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.  15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.  16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

Sadly many Mormons don’t stop to think of the oaths they’re taking once they become a member of the LDS Church.  They raise their hands just like everybody else does to confirm the next leader with no questions asked.

Covenant with God, not Jesus

Life of Joseph Smith, pg. 175; None but the genius of Jehovah could have inspired such a dispensation as that which Joseph opened… Joseph began, not with Jesus and his apostles, but with Jehovah and Abraham…True, the dispensation of Jesus was brought into the infinite embrace of Mormonism as one superior to that of Moses and the Prophets…In Jehovah, not Jesus, is the origin of the everlasting covenant and priesthood. Surely this is not blasphemy. It is truly a significant sign of the heathenish spirit of Romish Christianity, that any disciple of Hebrew faith should find it necessary to thus guard the mighty God of Israel…

Hebrews 5:9; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!  What’s the aversion to the Lord???

Convince LDS of Errors

The Seer, pg. 15; “…we ask from you the same generosity – protect us in the exercise of our religious rights – convince us of our errors of doctrine, if we have any, by reason, by logical arguments, or by the word of God, and we will be ever grateful for the information…

Jude 1:3; Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

They say they want people to point out the errors of their ways but they get mad when we do!

Create/Creation

TPJS, pg. 354; All the fools and learned and wise men from the beginning of creation, who say that the spirit of man had a beginning, prove that it must have an end; and if that doctrine is true, then the doctrine of annihilation would be true. But if I am right, I might with boldness proclaim from the house-tops that God never had the power to create the spirit of man at all. God himself could not create himself.

Isaiah 40:28; Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

See what I mean?  He “dares” all the fools and learned men to prove him wrong?  He wouldn’t listen to the truth if you handed it to him on a silver platter.

Creation

www.lds.org; Under the direction of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ created the heavens

and the earth (see Mosiah 3:8; Moses 2:1). From scripture revealed through the Prophet

Joseph Smith, we know that in the work of the Creation, the Lord organized elements

that had already existed (see Abraham 3:24). He did not create the world “out of

nothing,” as some people believe.

Col. 1:15-16; Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16For by him

were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether

they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for

him.

The book of Moses claims God created the earth but the book of Abraham claims the gods

organized the elements, so which story is truth?

Creation of Man

Handbook of the Restoration, pg. 343-345; The formation of man was the crowning act of all creation, and stood out as its most significant feature. Many are the lessons to be learned from it, one of the most important of which is, that it gives us direct knowledge of what God is like, for God made man in his own image and likeness…As if to remove all doubt concerning the fact that man, in form, was made in the likeness and image of God, the scripture makes another comparison defining beyond all controversy the meaning to be conveyed by the written word. It speaks now of the birth of Seth, son of Adam, and says:”Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image, and called his name Seth.”… After a careful study of the original Hebrew in which these passages were written, Dr. S. R. Driver, professor of Hebrew at Oxford University, comes to the conclusion that not only was Adam in the form and likeness of the Lord, but that Seth was also, since he was in the image of Adam who was in the image of God.  In his work entitled “The Book of Genesis,” this scholar says:”Seth, being in Adam’s image, is also in God’s image. It follows that the image of God is transmitted to Adam’s descendants.”This is a most important declaration in view of another significant phase of the creation.

Luke 8:11-15; Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.  12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.  13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.  14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.  15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Got all that?  Long story short, the Mormons take the creation of Adam being made after the image of God in the most literal sense.  Using the references of the “scholar” Driver is equally disturbing – he’s a non-believer.

Creator

Joseph Smith – Seeker After Truth, Prophet of God, pg. 158; Here Joseph Smith again broke with existing false traditions. It had been taught that God created the earth out of nothing, by the fiat of his word. Instead, Joseph declared that the earth was made from existing materials. That is, the earth was organized rather than created. Latter-day Saints always speak of the “creation” of the earth in that sense.

Genesis 1:1-2; In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

For me personally, the last half of the second verse in Genesis has to be one of the most profound scriptures of the entire Bible.  It blows me away just trying to imagine what the Spirit of God must have looked like moving upon the face of the waters.

I thought about this as I was arranging some new perennials in my garden (Spring ’09).  The only good I amount to is the ability to arrange my simple garden according to the colors that might look complimentary to each other.  After I organized my garden I had to wonder… “How could they honestly believe this is all it took to “organize” and “create” an earth?”  Really now…Father, I beg of You to forgive them, for they know not what they do…

Creator/s

Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, pgs. 22-23; ““Long before you were born a program was developed by your creators… The principal personalities in this great drama were a Father Elohim, perfect in wisdom, judgment, and person, and two sons, Lucifer and Jehovah.”

Psalm 86:10-11; “For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.  11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.”

Lucifer is not a son of God and how can Jehovah be a son of God if He’s already God?

Criticism of the Church

Messenger and Advocate, Vol. 1 (October 1834-September 1835): pg. 9;That principle which actuates the children of men to revile, ridicule, calumniate and destroy the peace of one another, because they take the liberty to think for themselves in matters of religion, is certainly from beneath, and not from above…

Acts 17:11; These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Oh  how awful it is when someone takes the liberty to think for themselves!

Criticism of the Church

Apostle Dallin H. Oaks, “Criticism,” Ensign, Feb. 1987, page 68;Truth surely exists as an absolute, but our use of truth should be disciplined by other values. … When truth is constrained by other virtues, the outcome is not falsehood but silence for a season. As the scriptures say, there is “a time to keep silence, and a time to speak.

Proverbs 14:15; The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Truth is never constrained by other virtues.

Critics

Ensign, May 1982, pg 4;Be of good cheer, for the Lord is guiding His church. Brothers and sisters, pray for the critics of the Church; love your enemies.” – Spencer W. Kimball

1 John 3:14; We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

Why is the body of Christ “enemies” to the LDS Church?

Cross

3 Nephi 11:14;Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world.

John 3:14-15; And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

The Mormons do not believe Jesus was slain for the sins of the world.  They teach that Jesus bled in the Garden of Gethsemane for man’s sins.

Cross

D&C 21:9;For, behold, I will bless all those who labor in my vineyard with a mighty blessing, and they shall believe on his words, which are given him through me by the Comforter, which manifesteth that Jesus was crucified by sinful men for the sins of the world, yea, for the remission of sins unto the contrite heart.

Mention of the cross…

D&C 76:69;These are they who are just men made perfect through Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, who wrought out this perfect atonement through the shedding of his own blood.

No mention of the cross…

John 15:13; Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

If Jesus had paid the price for sins in the Garden of Gethsemane then He lied in John 15:13.

Cross, Official Church Doctrine about the

Mormon Doctrine, pg. 172;Frequently this practice of dwelling on the personal death struggle of our Lord has caused these churches to put sculptured representations of Christ on their crosses, thus forming so called crucifixes. All this is inharmonious with the quiet spirit of worship and reverence that should attend a true Christian’s remembrance of our Lord’s sufferings and death. In fact, the revealed symbolism to bring these things to the attention of true worshipers is found in the ordinance of the sacrament.”

1 Corinthians 1:18-19; For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

I can’t speak for churches that use the crucifix.  I can speak for myself and say that if I don’t stop each and every single day to focus upon Jesus on that cross for me I am lost and unfocused.

Cross

Ensign, May 1975, pg. 92; “…“If you do not use the cross, what is the symbol of your religion?” I replied that the lives of our people must become the only meaningful expression of our faith and, in fact, therefore, the symbol of our worship.” – Gordon B. Hinckley

Gal. 6:14; But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

WHERE IS JESUS????

Cross

Marion Romney, Ensign, pg. 6 May 1982; Having thus taken upon himself mortality, having suffered in Gethsemane for the sins of all men, and having given his life on the cross, there remained for him but to break the bonds of death—the fourth and last requirement—to complete his earthly mission as Redeemer.

Colossians 2:13-14; And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.

Okay the whole idea of Jesus’ requirements to fulfill His mission is rather disturbing but with that aside Jesus did NOT pay for man’s sins in the Garden of Eden!  If He paid for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane, why did He have to die?

Cross is Salvation to Those Saved

Answers to Gospel Questions 4:17; “To many, like the writer, such a custom is repugnant and contrary to the true worship of our Redeemer. Why should we bow down before a cross or use it as a symbol? Because our Savior died on the cross, the wearing of crosses is to most Latter-day Saints in very poor taste and inconsistent to our worship.”

1 Cor. 1:18; For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

The Cross is repugnant?  Wow.  What do you say to something like that except to pray for those who think this way?

The Cross

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 344; Latter-day Saints do not use the symbol of the cross in their architecture or in their chapels. They, like the earliest Christians, are reluctant to display the cross because they view the “good news” of the gospel as Christ’s resurrection more than his crucifixion.

Ephesians 2:16; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby.

The good news is that your sins are paid for!!!  Why would you be reluctant about proclaiming such a thing unless of course you don’t believe it?

Crucifixion, Three Hours of Darkness vs. Three Days of Darkness at

3 Nephi 8:3; And the people began to look with great earnestness for the sign which had been given by the prophet Samuel, the Lamanite, yea, for the time that there should be darkness for the space of three days over the face of the land.

Mark 15:33; And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

This is a classic example of how the Book of Mormon is not inspired of God.

Cult, According to the LDS Church What is a?

Bruce McConkie defined a cult as “sects” in Mormon Doctrine.  Under the sects section it says;See APOSTASY, CHRISTIANITY, CREEDS, FIRST VISION, HARLOTS. Division and dissension, contention, confusion and discord — these are among the prevailing characteristics of the sects of Christendom.”  MD, pg. 174 & 699. [emphasis mine]

John 15:17-18; These things I command you, that ye love one another.18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

So is Smith’s first vision part of a cult?  Why would you call Christianity a cult if you claim to be Christian?
