King of Israel

“Beloved Brethren,” Zion’s Harbinger and Baneemy’s Organ, v. 3, July 1853, p. 53; “Joseph suffered himself to be ordained a King, to reign over the house of Israel forever.” – William Marks

Jeremiah 23:5-6; “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. 6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

Micah 5:2; “But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”

John 18:33, 36; “Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? 36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.”

Clearly, Joseph Smith was showing signs of delusion by condoning this type of behavior amongst his followers. Furthermore, if they believed Joseph Smith was to reign over the house of Israel forever then why prey tell are they calling themselves Christians?

I wonder if they were referring to Joseph as Our Lord of Righteousness as Jeremiah said the King’s name would be.  How well would that be accepted by Mormons today?
