Mystery of God

1 Nephi 2:16; “…having great desires to know of the mysteries of God, wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord; and behold he did visit me, and did soften my heart that I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father; wherefore, I did not rebel against him like unto my brothers.”

Ephesians 3:3, 6; “How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words…6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel.”

Well it’ be nice to know what Nephi’s father said or wrote, but Nephi told us earlier that it wasn’t going to talk about the things his father wrote or taught about because there were many things he wrote (1:16-17).  Okay, but what is Nephi believing and why can’t we know what the mysteries are?  Do they differ from what Paul has told us in the Bible and if so how?

And how did God visit Nephi? Did he appear in person or through a vision?

How did God soften Nephi’s heart?  What did he say?

And why did Nephi say he had a great desire to know the mysteries of God when he said in chapter one verse one that he had grown up and already had a great knowledge of the mysteries of God?

1 Nephi 1:1; “I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore I make a record of my proceedings in my days.”
