Gospel Standards Key to Good Judgment

“Developing Good Judgment and Not Judging Others”, Ensign, May 2010, pg. 105; “A person can never be a good judge without the gospel of Jesus Christ as a reference. The gospel has a long and successful record of guiding people to happiness. Some of the world’s ideas leave mankind adrift to try to define their own standards. Because of this, we hear phrases like ‘a new morality.’ This phrase is deceptive! The standards of morality are eternal and have not changed; neither should we try to discover a new interpretation of them.” – Gregory A. Schwitzer

1 Timothy 6:3-5; “If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.”

This is a great LDS Gem I received almost two years ago. I agree you should only be using Jesus’ standard of “judging”, but when you don’t believe the words in the Bible, from where is the standard of judgment coming? And why aren’t they living by the advice they’re giving?

A good example of the contradictions in Mormon writings vs. behavior is found in the LDS explanation of marriages in heaven from Mark 12:18-25. Scripture clearly says that Jesus told the Sadducees they weren’t interpreting scripture properly as there are no marriages in heaven. Yet, the LDS Church tells people this passage of scripture has been mistranslated. They will tear apart anything that doesn’t agree with the ideologies of Joseph Smith.

Indeed, there is a new morality! Polygamy, racism, not accepting God or Jesus, new terminology for everyday words…

Here’s a small list of scriptures condemning polygamy yet you’ll find while the mainstream church no longer practices it, once again their canon of scripture still contains the teaching that polygamy is part of salvation.

Leviticus 18:18: “Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.

Deuteronomy 17:17; “Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.”

1 Timothy 3:2, 12; “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.”

1 Kings 11:3; “And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart”.

1 Corinthians 7:2; “Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”

Genesis 2:24; “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

Matthew 19:4-6; “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

Titus 1:6; “If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.”
