LDS Youth Fed Lies in Easter Message

19 April

New Era, ‘Thankful This Easter Season,’ April 2018; “Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, suffered, died, and rose from death in order that He could grasp us as we fall, hold us with His might, and through our obedience to His commandments, lift us to eternal life. …

This Easter I thank Him and the Father, who gave Him to us, that Jesus still stands triumphant over death, although He stands on wounded feet. This Easter I thank Him and the Father, who gave Him to us, that He still extends unending grace, although He extends it with pierced palms and scarred wrists. This Easter I thank Him and the Father, who gave Him to us, that we can sing before a sweat-stained garden, a nail-driven cross, and a gloriously empty tomb…” – Jeffrey Holland

Galatians 3:13; “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree”.

There were a few problems with the latest issue of the LDS New Era Magazine. At the top of the list is to whom the message was directed. As always, it’s bad enough when Church leaders lie to the general public. However, it seems to add another layer of awful when they lie to kids.

The flowery message Mr. Holland afforded to LDS youth was another display of faux adoration for our Lord. If he truly believed Jesus holds us with His might, he wouldn’t have added the ‘through our obedience’ clause at the end of his sentence.

Moreover, his comment about a ‘sweat-stained garden’ is a veiled reference to D&C 19:18; Joe Smith prophecy’s declaring Jesus paid for sins at Gethsemane, not Golgotha. Why couldn’t he have shared how Galatians 3:13 was a reminder of a fulfilled OT prophecy?

Another problem we picked up on was an info-graphic they used. At the end of their Jesus article was a flier type image with numerous life events of Jeffrey Holland. It had nothing to do with Christ, and everything to do with the thirteen accomplishments they listed Mr. Holland achieved in life. To read the full transcript and the infographic, see link above.

Pray for the minds of those who read their message to be shielded from the lies, and for them to stay focused on the whole reason for acknowledging Jesus, the true Redeemer.

With Love in Christ;

1 Cor. 1:18
