LDS Priesthood Restructuring and Membership Outlook

08 April

The overall stats put out by the LDS Church last week was dismal. I would imagine there’s a fair amount of talk behind closed doors as to how they’re going to deal with the substantial loss of membership, not to mention the retention rate problem they have right now.

After looking at the ‘fruits of their labors’ my heart is broken as I think about the futility of it all. Every statistic revealed a downward trend, except one. The one number that went up was the unaccounted for members they added.

With all the program restructuring they announced, one should give them great pause. LDS prophet, Russell Nelson, announced the restructuring of their Melchizedek Priesthood. Here in part is what Mr. Nelson said –

‘Tonight we announce a significant restructuring of our Melchizedek Priesthood quorums to accomplish the work of the Lord more effectively. In each ward, the high priests and the elders will now be combined into one elders quorum. This adjustment will greatly enhance the capacity and the ability of men who bear the priesthood to serve others. Prospective elders will be welcomed in and fellowshipped by that quorum. In each stake, the stake presidency will continue to preside over the stake high priests quorum. But the composition of that quorum will be based on current priesthood callings, as will be explained later.’

Instead of bothering to combine the different levels, they’d be better off by dismantling it altogether, and repent since it’s not theirs to restructure. God’s word tells us in Hebrews that God speaks to us through His Son, and He’s able to make intercession to save all of us.

Hebrews 1:1-27:25 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”

All of this reminds me of the adage, ‘they’re rearranging furniture on the Titanic’. Pray for Jesus to open the eyes of those who are Mormon so they can find true rest and salvation in Him!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
