Belief on Whose Name?

Journal of Discourses 6:229; “Now, brethren, this is a consolation to us all. Believe in God, believe in Jesus, and believe in Joseph his Prophet, and in Brigham his successor. And I add, “If you will believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is the Christ, and Joseph was a Prophet, and that Brigham was his successor, you shall be saved in the kingdom of God,” which I pray, in the name of Jesus, may be the case. Amen.” – Joseph Young, Salt Lake City, July 26, 1857

John 1:12; “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”

The term “believe on his name” is not to be found outside of this particular verse. God never gave us directives to believe on the name of any human being and that includes His prophets as well as apostles in the Bible.

Likewise, God never directs us to believe in any human being aside from His Son Jesus.
