Book of Mormon Plagiarisms

27 May

BoMThere are a couple of passages in the Book of Mormon we’re looking at today. Within these two passages, there are two possibilities of what took place when Jesus supposedly visited the Nephites soon after His resurrection

We’re listing our examples below, along with our questions!

In our first scenario we have Jesus ‘quoting’ the Apostle Peter before Peter has had a chance to write his part in the book of Acts.

3 Nephi 20:23-26; “Behold, I am he of whom Moses spake, saying: A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass that every soul who will not hear that prophet shall be cut off from among the people. 24 Verily I say unto you, yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have testified of me. 25 And behold, ye are the children of the prophets; and ye are of the house of Israel; and ye are of the covenant which the Father made with your fathers, saying unto Abraham: And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 26 The Father having raised me up unto you first, and sent me to bless you in turning away every one of you from his iniquities; and this because ye are the children of the covenant—”

Acts 3:22-26; “For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. 24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. 25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”

Not surprisingly we have to wonder…

How did Jesus know what Peter was going to say? Did He plagiarize Peter, or did Peter plagiarize Jesus?

The next example is just as bad. This time we see the Mormon Jesus ‘quoting’ Paul before Paul had the opportunity to write his first epistle to believers in Corinth.

3 Nephi 18:29; “For whoso eateth and drinketh my flesh and blood unworthily eateth and drinketh damnation to his soul; therefore if ye know that a man is unworthy to eat and drink of my flesh and blood ye shall forbid him.”

1 Corinthians 11:29; “For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.”

Don’t forget beloved, even though some people may have the same vernacular, it doesn’t mean they’re from the Lord!

Jude 1:4 “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”
