Journal of Discourses 13:63-64; “It was in the Garden of Eden that the devil, or one of those foul spirits, entered into a certain animal or beast, called a serpent, and came before our first parents and beguiled them, and they suffered themselves to partake of the forbidden fruit. If, then, they were in the earth as early as the Garden of Eden, no doubt, they have been here from that day to this, and that the earth is the place of their habitation. They wander to and fro in the earth seeking whom they may devour! Only think of a hundred devils to every being that now exists on the earth.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, December 19, 1869

2 Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.

Crazy thoughts and spiritual warfare can run rampant when we don’t heed Paul’s admonition. It seems Mr. Pratt’s unbridled thoughts became the latest theophany he passed along, and for those who didn’t read their Bible it became truth.

1.The Bible didn’t say anything about a random foul spirit.

2.Adam and Eve didn’t ‘suffer themselves’ to partake of the fruit.

3.No unnamed evil spirits were roaming the earth when Adam and Eve were there.

4.Where does the Bible say there are 100 devils to every person?

If you’re LDS, do you believe Mr. Pratt’s story? If you don’t, what makes his other teachings believable? We’re praying you’ll think about what they’ve taught and compare it with what our Lord has said in His word!

With Love in Christ;
