Women Who Fight Against Polygamy Go To Hell

26 January

Journal of Discourses 17:159; “…I want to say to my sisters that if you lift your heels

against this revelation, and say that you would obliterate it, and put it out of existence if you had the power to nullify and destroy it, I say that if you imbibe that spirit and feeling, you will go to hell…” – Brigham Young, Lehi City, August 9, 1874

1 Thessalonians 5:22; “Abstain from all appearance of evil.”

Proverbs 6:32; “But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: He that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.”

Genesis 2:24; “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

God’s word is replete with warnings against the type of behavior Brigham and company espoused. As every Bible student well knows, the Lord doesn’t tolerate adultery.

Did you know the word ‘cleave’ in Hebrew is dābaq, and it means ‘stuck’? It sounds funny when you think of it, but it literally means you’re stuck with that spouse to the end. Our text in Genesis didn’t say a man should cleave to his wives. It specifically stated his ‘wife’.

Questions:

Does Brigham’s warning still apply today? Why, or why not?

If Brigham’s warning does apply, in what ways are you advocating polygamy?

Dear Mormon friends, it’s imperative for you to know the word of God! We pray you’ll take time today and read what He has to say about polygamy. If it’s not an option for you in this day and age, why would it have been okay back then?

Where in the Bible does it say someone would go to hell for not accepting polygamy?

Finally, what purpose did polygamy serve?
