Want the Holy Ghost? Qualify, and Plead for ‘It’

23 April

Liahona, ‘Watch Over and Strengthen,’ July 2000; “We can only have the Holy Ghost as a companion if we plead for it and if we qualify for it.

To have the companionship of the Holy Ghost, we must be cleansed of sin (see D&C 50:29). That only comes through faith enough in Jesus Christ to repent and qualify for forgiveness (see D&C 3:20). And then we have to stay away from sin…” – Henry B. Eyring

John 14:16-17; “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

Our LDS quote today came from the same man (Henry Eyring) who lied about Mormon leaders not receiving money for their job.

His words have to be some of the most egregious things one could say about our Lord, and the salvation He provides.

If we had to ‘qualify’ for God’s Holy Spirit, no one could because no one is good (Rom. 3:10). Mr. Eyring has also twisted what God said by claiming we have to ‘plead’ for God’s Holy Spirit. Jesus clearly told us that when we ask for Him to come, He’ll do so John 14:23. While our request can be filled with emotion, God certainly isn’t a malevolent God wanting to see you grovel for Him to come to you. No true father would do that to a child!

The main problem here is found in how the Church has lied about the purpose of God’s Holy Spirit, and how He works A great article on this can be found at GotQuestions.org. Here’s a snippet of what they said –

“The indwelling Spirit is grieved when the believer sins (Ephesians 4:30), and He convicts the believer to confess his sin to the Lord so that fellowship is restored (1 John 1:9).”

I still remember the panic a sweet woman had in her voice when she called, asking me if she had disqualified herself from God’s presence by leaving the Church. She had worried herself sick believing LDS doctrines much like the one we’ve seen here today.

Oh beloved, please share this with the Mormon you know! Discovering the truth about God’s precious presence is a gift no one can live without!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
