Visiting Teaching Message – December 2014

01 December

Visiting Teaching MsgIn the month of December Visiting Teachers will be sharing a message that reflects the role Jesus has in our lives as the Prince of Peace.

The message begins with a quote by Quentin L. Cook, that says

“The Savior is the source of true peace,” said Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. “Even with the trials of life, because of the Savior’s Atonement and His grace, righteous living will be rewarded with personal peace.” (Emphasis mine)

When I read quotes like this one I have to wonder if they truly understand what they’re talking about. Anytime I hear Mormon leaders speak on topics like this I’ve noticed how they seem to have a knack for making it more about the church members, and not about Jesus.

It always comes back to the individual being praised, rewarded or exalted for their obedience, instead of standing aside and allowing Jesus to receive the glory.

Jesus came to save us from the bondage of a works righteous system, because He knew we could never do enough good to erase the stain of sin in our lives. Striving to live a righteous and holy life is something we should strive to do, however it’s not going to bring us eternal peace and in ensure us of our salvation.

Isaiah 9:6 reads “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Only Jesus can give us that peace in our minds and hearts, and only by trusting in Him fully (and in our works) can we have the peace He graciously offers.
In Christ,
