Tip of the Day, September 20

20 September

September 20 – John 7:14-17; “Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.  And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?  Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.  If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.”

Why can’t they just say, ‘Jesus knew the scriptures because He was God’?  Bowing the knee just seems too hard to do for some people…

“It is, in fact, a simple matter to determine how Christ learned the gospel and prepared for his ministry. We need simply see what he has asked us to do, and we will thereby have identified what he did. Since he has challenged us to search the scriptures, we know that he searched the scriptures; since he has challenged us to seek learning by “study and also by faith,” we know that he sought learning in the same manner.”  Joseph Fielding McConkie, Seeking the Spirit, 30.
