Tip of the Day, March 8

08 March

March 8 – Matthew 11:21-2; “Woe unto thee, Chorazin! Woe unto thee, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes”.

A simple study in a Bible dictionary will tell you that Sidon was crumpled to its very core on several occasions by revolts and overthrows of governments.  Jesus never did say anything about it being a righteous city at all, nor was there any mention of a river called Sidon.  Sidon was actually a port city on a rocky promontory point jutting into the sea.

Joseph Smith used names of cities, people and other things from the Bible to confuse the Mormon people.  He’d take those names, change their meanings and apply a contradictory spiritual connotation to them than what the Bible implied.  Today’s witnessing tip is just one example of his trickery.

_____

In 84 BC, Alma began baptizing the people in the river of Sidon.  Alma 4:4.  Sidon was also the river where the Nephites defeated the Amlicites & the Lamanites. Alma threw their bodies from the banks into the river so that they could cross to the other side. Alma 2:17, 27, 34-5.  It says that the land where Sidon was became peaceful and prosperous.
