Tip of the Day, March 20

20 March

March 20 – Gen. 9:4; “But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.”

God was rather clear when He told the Israelites not to eat raw meat, but in the Book of Mormon this isn’t a problem with their god.  Ask them why this would be so.

For the first time in the history of mankind God sanctioned an animal diet as long as it’s not eaten with blood – see Lev. 17:10-11, 14. Blood was a sign of mercy for Israel in Passover, Atonement, Sanctification at the altar (Ex. 29:12), sealed covenants (Matt. 26:28), Justification (Ro. 5:9), Redemption (Eph. 1:7), Brings Peace w/ God (Co. 1:20), Cleansing (Heb. 9: 1 4), Entrance to God’s holy place (Heb. 10:19), Sanctification (Heb 13:12), Enables us to overcome Satan (Rev. 12:11).

Before this time it never occurred to man that he could eat meat. The grasses, plants, fruits and vegetables had been more than plentiful. The plants had always been nutritious and still were, but now they were given the idea and gift from God to eat meat. The stipulation of His gift was to not eat the blood, flesh yes, blood, no.

God’s reasoning for this is because the blood is where the life is contained and it is considered to be holy and treated with respect.  He allowed people to eat flesh and be nourished by it, but when eaten raw you destroy your body.

The blood is what was used in ceremonial law and was a sacrifice given back to God to cover our sin – the life of the animal is always given to Him. Just as Jesus’ blood was given as a sacrifice, His blood contained His life and that was taken away from Him (Jesus) and given to the Father to pay the price for our sin.

1 Nephi 17:2;  “And so great were the blessings of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and were strong, yea, even like unto the men; and they began to bear their journeyings without murmurings”.
