Tip of the Day, July 29

29 July

July 29 – Luke 18:9-14; “And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.  11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.  12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”

Isn’t it just like our Lord to provide the exact word for us when we need to know how He thinks and how things are to be done the right way?  This is what gives me comfort now that I’m His.  It is comforting beyond words to know I don’t have to be the one who is responsible for other people’s salvation.  Share with a Mormon the truth about who brings salvation to people.

“More especially would I like to turn to the same group and start at the other end and hear someone say, “Because I’m a Latter-day Saint I go to church, I pay tithing, and I keep the Sabbath day holy.” And then I would love to hear somebody say, “Because I am a Latter-day Saint I am kind to my neighbor. I am patient with my husband. I pay my bills. I speak the truth. I hunger and thirst after knowledge. I am going to learn something about the laws of the universe and the nature of human nature so that I might help God bring to pass the immortality and godlike life of man.”
