Tip of the Day, January 14

14 January

January 14 – The Only Begotten Son.  “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”  John 1:14

We understand the word “only” to mean just that.  Webster’s Dictionary says that is means single; by itself, alone, pre-eminent, distinguished above all others, and without help.

Mormons understand Only Begotten to mean that “Christ was begotten by an Immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers”.  Mormon Doctrine, pg. 546-547.  He’s the only son born this way.
