Tip of the Day, December 26

26 December

December 26 – 1 Corinthians1:18; “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

_____

This verse has always been my call to arms so to speak.  The Mormon cannot stand talking about the cross so the more I engage them in conversation, the more I bring up the subject of the cross.  I like to show them this verse and then 1 Cor. 15:1-5; they soon see they are without excuse and besides once again, it gives them something to think about.

If you’re a Christian you worship a God not confined to a man made grave.  You worship a God who raised His dead Son and brought Him back to life.

There are so many biblical references to sacrifices needing to be made for man’s sin and each of them are a foreshadowing of what was to come through God’s own sacrifice of His Son.  Why would the Garden of Gethsemane qualify?  And where in scripture can we see that the Garden of Gethsemane would fulfill the sacrifice God demanded for righteousness?  These are the questions I would ask the Mormon.

_____

“GREATEST SUFFERING WAS IN GETHSEMANE. We speak of the passion of Jesus Christ. A great many people have an idea that when he was on the cross, and nails were driven into his hands and feet, that was his great suffering. His great suffering was before he ever was placed upon the cross. It was in the Garden of Gethsemane that the blood oozed from the pores of his body: “Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit-and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink,” That was not when he was on the cross; that was in the garden. That is where he bled from every pore in his body.”  Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, 3 vols. 1: 130.

Hi, just came across this site looking for something else. It’s sad to see this sort of thing going on. We, Christians, most of all, should rejoice that Christ has re-established His Church. He has given us so much, and it is sad to see that people still are in the dark about what is going on. It is true that He began the process of taking our sins upon Himself in Gethsemane, and the Bible is clear that He suffered greatly there. Many people died on crosses and we should understand that this physical suffering was not all that Jesus was about. It was the infinite suffering that was important, and LDS understand that it is on the cross that our Lord finished taking those sins upon Himself. Some of your tip was misleading, and I hope this was not intentional. For more information on what Mormons REALLY believe try reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon, or go to LDS org etc. For some reason, you aren’t often going to get the truth about Christ’s restored Church from those who stand to benefit from keeping you from the truth. Many people in Christ’s day tried to use the Bible against Him. Some people do this today also. If they really wanted you to know what members of the Church of Jesus Christ believe, they would simply tell you to read the Book of Mormon and the Bible. Then they would tell you to pray, and ask God, who has promised to give to those who seek. There is no need to re-interpret for you. Jesus is real, and He has promised to answer. Trust Him. It is this faith in Him that brings salvation.

To simply say that to find out what the Mormons believe by reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon is the real misleading part on this particular blog page. You only believe the Bible where it supports your theology. You believe the B of M is the most perfect book ever written… Even though there have been over 3,000 changes since the original 1st edition. The B of M more closely resembles the Bible in its theology (to include whole chapters of Isaaih right out of the King James Bible). The problems really come to surface when one reads the Doctrine & Covenants and Pearl of Great Price. That is where we can find the odd teachings about God, Jesus, polygamy, negroes, salvation, temples, etc. The B of M denounces polygamy and says that God is a Spirit. That is not what the LDS teach and believe.
