Thought of the Day about Mormonism…and Masonry

I was wondering today about the Masonic emblems on the Mormon temples.  If the Church doesn’t want its members to associate with secret organizations, why are the temples riddled with the satanic markings of Masonry?

And how does someone take oaths to the Worshipful Master in the Masonic Lodge when they’ve already taken oaths to the Mormon god in the temple?  To whom are you pledging your loyalty to now?  How do you pledge loyalty to two different gods?

I was just thinking that the average Mormon probably wouldn’t hold a lot of allegiance to the Bible and what it says about being eternal.  For instance in Isaiah 40:8.  I’ve not met a Mormon yet that will take this verse at face value and believe what it says.  They typically have their own version of what it probably means or they’ve told me it’s not proven this has been translated correctly.

Isaiah 40:8;

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

It seems it’s easier to take a secret oath in non-public temples than it is to believe what the Bible has to say.  Somehow in all the mayhem of these oath taking temples people have forgotten what’s in the very public Bible.

Jesus, yes Jesus, told us not to take oaths in Matthew 5:33-37;

“33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:

35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”

I grew up on the east bench of Ogden, Utah and back in the 60’s through the 70’s there was an oversized Masonic Temple at the mouth of the Ogden Canyon.  I recall always wondering what secret things were going on in that temple compared to the secret ceremonies going on in our temples.  All I knew was that Masons weren’t allowed to be Mormons, but Mormons could be Masons.

Not sure how that worked out for them, but somehow they pulled it off.  While looking around the net to find the official position of the LDS Church, I ran across the following article from Wikipedia.

“The presidency of the LDS Church has not made an official statement as to whether or not Freemasonry is compatible with Mormonism. However Don LeFevre, a past spokesman for the church has said the church “…strongly advises its members not to affiliate with organizations that are secret, oath-bound, or would cause them to lose interest in church activities.”[8] There are many LDS Masons in Utah and other Grand Lodges who serve and have served in various leadership positions, including Grand Masters, other Grand Officers, and Worshipful Masters.”

Again, the question for the day remains unanswered…why is it so easy to take oaths to two different gods but not believe the One True God of the Bible?
