The 70 Day Study of Russell Nelson

09 April

As I began compiling notes for our look at the talks given at this year’s General Conference, I received a heads up from Melissa telling me about a website she came across promoting ‘The 70 Day President Nelson Study’. The 70 days is based on the 70 talks Mr. Nelson has given at past General Conferences. The idea is that you can learn more about Nelson by reading his talks.

At first I thought she was joking around, however lo, and behold, it was anything but a joke. I can’t say for sure how much backing the Church officially gives to such ventures, but can’t imagine they’d frown on it. Especially when they push the ‘follow the prophet’ theory…

Their website has a healthy amount of followers, so be sure to pray for those who take up this foolish idea. Their spiritual aptitude is obviously lacking, and reveals the fruit of Mormonism. The first reaction of a Christian is to study Jesus, not another person!

No one but Jesus has the power to fix the hurt in man’s heart, and no one but Jesus has ever been raised from the dead proving the power He holds!

This type of wayward activity is dangerous beloved!

We can help a Mormon by listing 70 attributes of Jesus and sharing our discovery with him/her.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle

    Hi Michelle!

    My name is John, creator of the 70-day Presisent Nelson challenge that you are talking about.

    I come in peace. I say that because I don’t want you to think I am attacking in any way. Just wanted to clarify some of the things that you have mentioned.

    No, my page and this post I created are not a joke. They are no more of a joke than your post is. Also my page is not endorsed by the church- just a believer trying to spread goodness and help others to come into Christ.

    Why do we believe in prophets? Because that’s what God has always had- from Moses to Isaiah, Joseph Smith to Russell Nelson. The purpose of a prophet is to help direct us the right direction- towards God. Their sole purpose is to help all to come into Christ. If the scriptures are full of words of the prophets- should be we encourage people to read their words? Paul was commissioned to spread the gospel- just like Russell Nelson.

    I invite you to take on the challenge before labeling us as “lacking” in spirituality. It does seem quite silly for someone to label it as such and then write a blog about it without reading it, don’t you think? It’s kind of like when atheists talk about how silly we are as Christians for believing in the Bible- but have never read it themselves.

    You’ll find, if you study President Nelson’s words, that you will draw closer unto Christ. It has been true for me and thousands of others.
