Stick of Judah – Mormon Quotes

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 419; In LDS terminology, the “Stick of Judah” refers to the Bible. The phrase appears in the book of the prophet Ezekiel (37:19). The belief that the Stick of Judah consists of a scriptural record is stated in the Book of Mormon  (1 Ne. 3:9-125:5-610-1313:20-292 Ne. 3:11-12; cf. D&C 27:5). Articles that discuss this subject are –>Book of Mormon, Biblical Prophecies about; –>Ezekial, Prophecies of; –>Joseph of Egypt: Writings of Joseph: and “–>Voice From the dust.”]

Leviticus 20:27A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

As for the previous three entries and the proper Hebrew transliteration for the word “stick” we can see the LDS meaning for this word has absolutely nothing to do with the Book of Mormon or the Bible for that matter.

In fact, the passage in Ezekiel is talking about how the tribes of Judah and the tribes of Joseph (or Ephraim) are representative in the two sticks Ezekiel was to show to the people.  God wanted them to see that just as Ezekiel held both sticks in one hand, God would one day hold the tribes of Joseph (Ephraim) and Judah in one hand where there would be no more animosity between either.

As a side note here, God often used the name “Ephraim” when referring to Israel.  It was a pet name He used lovingly for His children; see Hosea 11:1-4.
