Solomon’s Temple & Nephi’s Temple – Mormon Quotes

2 Nephi 5:15-17; And I did teach my people to build buildings, and to work in all manner of wood, and of iron, and of copper, and of brass, and of steel, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious ores, which were in great abundance.  16 And I, Nephi, did build a temple; and I did construct it after the manner of the temple of Solomon save it were not built of so many precious things; for they were not to be found upon the land, wherefore, it could not be built like unto Solomon’s temple. But the manner of the construction was like unto the temple of Solomon; and the workmanship thereof was exceedingly fine.  17 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did cause my people to be industrious, and to labor with their hands.

1 Kings 5:13-16And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. 14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy. 15 And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains; 16 Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.

Completed circa 950 BC the first temple took 7 years to build and was destroyed in 586 BC during the Babylonian invasion.  1 Kings 5, 6 & 7 (see also 2 Chronicles 3, 4 & 5) goes into great detail about how the temple was built – the temple was 3 stories high (some reports say 20 stories tall) and the entire inside of it was overlaid in gold.

Notice in there are only 3 verses in the Book of Mormon that addresses the topic of their magnificent temple. – There’s no detail of how long it took to build, what materials and how much they used or how many people it took to construct their temple.
