Saints are Superior, and the Best People

18 July

Doctrines of Salvation 1:236“SAINTS ARE THE BEST PEOPLE. We are, notwithstanding our weaknesses, the best people in the world. I do not say that boastingly, for I believe that this truth is evident to all who are willing to observe for themselves. We are morally clean, in every way equal, and in many ways superior to any other people. The reason is that we have received the truth, the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.” — Joseph Fielding Smith

Proverbs 16:5 “Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.”

Galatians 6:3 “For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.”

As a simple FYI, the words humility, humble, and its derivatives are in the Bible 66 times. Similarly, the words pride, and proud are in the Bible 93 times. Here we have an abundance of godly advice on the dangers of this behavior.

True Christianity exhibits humility, not the prideful self. My heart grieves when I read Mr. Smith’s ‘insight’. Not so much for him, but for who’ve placed their trust in this man, and the adopted behavioral problems incurred from LDS teachings like this.

I know this because it describes how I used to think, and feel. Shortly after becoming a Christian, I asked Jesus to remove the self-imposed walls around my heart, and forgive me of my hateful attitude.

Although Smith died in 1972, many who revered him are still living today – my own mother comes to mind. Please pray for her, and the millions of other who believe they’re better than everyone else just because they’re members of the LDS Church. It’s hard to let God in when you’ve determined someone/something else is more worthy.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
