Sacrament of Bread and Water – Mormon Quotes

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 1244; The ordinance of the Sacrament is administered by “those having authority”-that is, by priesthood bearers. According to modern revelation, priests in the Aaronic Priesthood and any Melchizedek Priesthood holder may officiate at the Sacrament table; in general practice, the table is prepared by teachers in the Aaronic Priesthood, and the bread and water are blessed by priests and passed to the members of the Church by deacons in the same priesthood.

Exodus 13:3And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten.

Luke 22:20Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

This is wrong in so many ways…

In the Mormon Church “those having authority” means that a 12 year old boy is administering the Lord’s Supper – something which should floor all who call themselves a Christian.  A 12 year old has more authority in Mormonism than I do; a 46 year old female.

Bread and water.  What can a person say to this?  It’s indefensible.  The Mormons use the everyday grocery store bread (usually Wonderbread) and tap water as tokens for the Lord’s Supper – Sacrament, or as Christians call it; Communion.

You talk about 12 year olds doing the Lords work. How old was Jesus when he went about his Fathers work, 12 years old. As for the bread and water it is blessed and sanctified for the purpose of the Sacrament. What makes your special, it is probably blesssed also?

Hello Mike thank you for taking the time to stop by our site and comment. How is administering a gross interpretation of the Lord’s Supper doing the “Lords work”? I have to wonder if Mormons even stop and take the time to think about what they’re doing. I don’t understand how you can partake of bread with leaven (yeast) in it and refer to it as the body of Christ with no consideration to what yeast represents in to God.

Throughout His word God has used leaven to symbolize sin. Before you partake of the sacrament next Sunday I suggest you do a study on the word “leaven”, by looking up all it’s references in the Bible. I don’t think you’ll be able to look at the sacrament the same way again. – Melissa Grimes

Jesus is the law giver. Therefore He has the authority to alter the law. He reveals to his modern prophets that it mattereth not what ye shall eat and drink for the remembrance of my body and blood. As long as you do it in my name’.

icecraze….can you show me a single verse in the BIBLE

icecraze – First of all Jesus fulfilled the requirements of the Law. The Law and its ordinances were nailed to the cross, this freed us from its repercussions and allows us to live under grace. Secondly why would Jesus alter the meaning behind partaking of the bread by accepting bread with yeast in it? I don’t know if you knew this but yeast represents sin in the Bible. – Melissa Grimes

    We read in Leviticus 7:
12 If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, fried.

13 Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings.

Both leavened and unleavened bread are instructed to be used. In the New Testament, Jesus likens leaven the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 13:33, Luke 13:21).

Leavened and unleavened bread are often used as symbols throughout the scriptures. There is no innate sin in either. As you pointed out, Moses (prophet at the time) commanded the people not to eat leavened bread as a symbol to remember the day the Lord brought the people out of bondage. Joseph Smith (prophet at the time) revealed from the Lord that “it mattereth not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament, if it so be that ye do it with an eye single to my glory—remembering unto the Father my body which was laid down for you, and my blood which was shed for the remission of your sins.” D&C 27:2

Paul does not specify the type of bread or the contents of the cup as he preaches the sacrament in 1 Cor. 11:23-28
