‘A Prophet One Minute, and a Devil Another’

15 July

Journal of Discourses 5:25-26; “I wonder if someone won’t go away and say that brother [Heber C.] Kimball and the authorities were misinformed. I can tell you they are not…I ask this congregation, and I adjure you in the name of the Lord to speak, if ever you heard brother Brigham, brother Kimball, brother Jedediah, or brother Wells say anything that was not strictly true. I answer, you never did.” Heber C. Kimball interrupts at this point: “If it were so, a man might be a Prophet one minute and a devil another.” – Patriarch John Young, Great Salt Lake City, July 12, 1857

Philippians 3:18-20; “(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ”.

The Apostle Paul.

Today, stop and conjure up an image of what he must have looked like. Records say he was rather short and stocky, and probably donned a curly hairdo and beard. Paul was the missionary of all missionaries. His pedigree read like the who’s who in the upper echelon of important people in the world. He was a Benjamite, a Pharisee, trained by none other than Gamaliel, and was widely known everywhere. He came from money, and prestige, so when he says he’d give up everything just to know Jesus, you can be sure there’s a lot at stake behind his powerful statement!

Now imagine a man with such prestige begging.

He was begging people to hear him out and to understand that the false beliefs they (Jews) were being fed, were all lies.

Who would do such a thing? Who’d put everything they are on the line just to warn people about false teachers if it wasn’t true? He had money, prestige, and clout. Whatever he wanted in life was his, simply because of who he was. His entire existence changed when Jesus met him on the road to Damascus. In a moment’s notice everything was different.

The message he implored to the people then, is for you, the Mormon, today. I ask you beloved, has Jesus changed your life in that capacity? If He hasn’t, then why? What happened when you began calling yourself a Christian that nothing changed?

The blasphemous polygamy quotes listed here today are a symbol of what isn’t right with Mormonism. None of the teachings/doctrines are true. God doesn’t demand polygamy for salvation, nor does He condone having sex outside of marriage.

Heber Kimball himself said that if what they were saying wasn’t true it meant he could be a prophet one minute, and a devil the next. What true believing, God-fearing person, would say such a thing?

Where in the Bible does God say you must practice polygamy (sex) for salvation? What kind of god would mandate such a thing? Oh dear friends, like Paul, I implore you to do the homework. Read His word to find out what He says regarding these things.

Furthermore, if it was mandatory for salvation back then, why isn’t it mandatory  in 2017?

Monogamy is a Curse & Lure to Temptation

Millennial Star, Vol. 15, No. 15, p. 227; “…the one-wife system not only degenerates the human family, both physically and intellectually, but it is entirely incompatible with philosophical notions of immortality; it is a lure to temptation, and has always proved a curse to a people.” – 1853

Monogamy Caused Prostitution

Journal of Discourses 13:195; “This law of monogamy, or the monogamic system, laid the foundation for prostitution and the evils and diseases of the most revolting nature and character under which modern Christendom groans,…” – Apostle Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1869

Rejecting Polygamy Causes You to Turn Dark as Midnight

Journal of Discourses 17:225; “Oppose it [Polygamy] in this way, and teach your children to do the same, and if you do not become as dark as midnight there is no truth in Mormonism.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1874

Brigham Could Put Javelin in Wife’s Heart for Adultery

Journal of Discourses 3:247; “I have no wife whom I love so well that I would not put a javelin through her heart, and I would do it with clean hands.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, March 16, 1856

Plurality of Women Calls For Polygamy

Journal of Discourses 16:45; “People have found out that we believe in a plurality of wives. The people of this Government say we shall not have a plurality of wives. Why not say: “a plurality of women,” and we shan’t have any objection to it. Because this would strike at men in high places. Their idea is, “If you want women, illegally, and then thrust them into the street when you have done with them, we care nothing about it; but if God has revealed anything about plurality of wives, to marry and provide for them, as he did in the days of the Patriarchs, we don’t want any of it.” If I have wives given to me of the Lord, I do not break any constitutional law of the land. But enough of that.” – Brigham Young, Ogden, May 18, 1873

Polyandry Forbidden by God

Journal of Discourses 18:55-56; “…God has strictly forbidden, in this Bible, plurality of husbands, and proclaimed against it in his law…” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 11, 1875

Journal of Discourses 21:295; “He [God] has ordained that every man who is worthy shall have a family of his own; but he never did ordain, neither before the foundation of the world nor during any of the dispensations that have existed on the earth, that a woman should have two husbands living at the same time.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 18, 1880

This would mean that Joe Smith was breaking God’s law! He was living with 8 married women.

Spirit Babies Waiting to be Born into Polygamous Families

Discourses of Brigham Young, p. 305; “There are multitudes of pure and holy spirits waiting to take tabernacles, now what is our duty?—To prepare tabernacles for them; to take a course that will not tend to drive those spirits into the families of the wicked, where they will be trained in wickedness, debauchery, and every species of crime. It is the duty of every righteous man and woman to prepare tabernacles for all the spirits they can… This is the reason why the doctrine of plurality of wives was revealed, that the noble spirits which are waiting for tabernacles might be brought forth. 4:56.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, September 21, 1856
