Times & Seasons 4:143; “We are charged with advocating a plurality of wives, and common property. Now this is as false as the many other ridiculous charges which are brought against us. No sect have a greater reverence for the laws of matrimony, or the rights of private property, and we do what others do not, plactice [sic] what we preach.”
1 Samuel 12:24-25; “Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. 25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.”
By the time the above LDS quote was made in November of 1842 by Joseph Smith, he had seventeen wives ranging in ages from 16 to 53. When he was shot and killed in June 1844 he had a whopping 34 wives.
