Colossians 1:16 “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him”.

While out running errands a few days ago, I listened to a pastor on the radio who spoke on the importance of being adopted by God. It was a beautiful sermon and filled my head with comparisons of the Mormon god, and the God of the Bible of which he spoke. It served as another reminder that as a Mormon, I was worshiping the wrong god!

As we all know, Joe Smith’s god is not the God of the Bible. One of the ways we can know this is through Smith’s vision we’re looking at today.

On February 16, 1832 while in Hiram, Ohio, Smith and Sidney Rigdon were ‘given a vision’. One of the things they claim this god told them was that all of mankind came into existence through a sexual union he had with one of his wives. In 1903 Church Historian BH Roberts, explained –

Mormonism. The Relation of the Church to the Christian Sects, pp. 34-35; “God, the Father, then according to “Mormon” theology, is the Father of the spirits of all men; not in a mystical sense, but actually—the spirit of man is really the offspring of Deity.” BH Roberts, 1903

All of this talk about a false idol god brings us to our question of the day…

How can someone be adopted, and be the literal blood offspring, at the same time?

Our much loved volunteer, Melissa, has three sons. She and Ralph welcomed a son into their family through the traditional way families do, and the two youngest sons are adopted.

I’ve never heard Melissa tell me that they had to adopt their oldest son! This would be frivolous, unnecessary, and for the lack of a better term, silly! The courts would laugh you out of the building!

With this in mind, why, or better yet how, is a man both the literal son of God, and adopted at the same time?

The other problem in this so-called vision is that it’s not Mormon dogma. The LDS Church has emphatically declared God didn’t have the power to create the earth.
