Past False Prophecy in LDS Teachings Today

22 January

Deuteronomy 13:1-3 “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

salt lake mormon temple 2We’ve received many e-mails over the years from people (mostly Mormons) asking why we dig up so much past history, and our answer is always the same. We don’t go out of our way searching for sensationalistic material, rather, we do this to inform. Granted, we do have a vested interest in the Church’s activities, and the internet has made it much easier for us while researching the history of the Church.

Today, however, we didn’t need to search around at all for the Church’s false prophecies. While reading through the latest Ensign Magazine, we noticed the Church has no problem in keeping the false prophecies front and center to keep the confusion going.

To read the article in full see Ensign, ‘Insights from the Doctrine and Covenants about the Father and the Son,’ January 2017, by Norman W. Gardner.

Today we’re looking at a blatantly false prophecy Mr. Gardner included in his article about the importance of knowing and understanding, the Doctrine and Covenants. In case you’re unaware, the D&C is a collection of prophecies given by leaders of the Church (mainly Joseph Smith) directed towards members of the Church. See Introduction for Doctrine and Covenants.

While explaining how one can obtain a greater knowledge about Christ, Gardner made the following statement –

‘The Doctrine and Covenants is not ancient scripture but contains revelations given to Joseph Smith and his successors in our modern world. Jesus Christ’s divine voice is heard speaking as the representative of the Father.1

Hidden in Mr. Gardner’s statement is the real story everyone should take heed of in order to understand true Mormonism. Here’s a good example of the Mormon façade they’ve built up to hide behind when denouncing God’s word.

Footnote 1 reads –

‘1. President Joseph Fielding Smith (1876–1972) explained:

“All revelation since the fall has come through Jesus Christ, who is the Jehovah of the Old Testament. In all of the scriptures, where God is mentioned and where he has appeared, it was Jehovah. … The Father has never dealt with man directly and personally since the fall, and he has never appeared except to introduce and bear record of the Son” (Doctrines of Salvation, comp. Bruce R. McConkie, 3 vols. [1954–56], 1:27).’ [emp. mine]

My first thought?

What about Moses?

What about Adam?

And then I began wondering about the others…

What about Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Hosea, Zephaniah, Jonah, Joshua, Solomon, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ruth, Judah, Esther, Nathan, David, Solomon, Samuel, Job, Obadiah, Amos, Micah, Nahum, Haggai, Habakkuk, Obed, Huldah, Enoch, Noah,  Malachi, Zechariah, or Joel?

We’ve just barely scratched the surface in our list of 37 people the Lord dealt with directly. And don’t forget about Simeon, Joseph, and Mary! That brings our list of names up to 40. Imagine all the others, which of course, would include the apostles and NT prophets.

How can the statement Mr. Smith made be true?

What kind of God would arbitrarily leave people in the dark? That sounds like a malevolent god, not the benevolent God we know and love in the Bible!

Lastly, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out as a loving reminder what it says in Hebrews 1:1-2

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.”

We’ll be looking closer at the false prophecies of Joseph Smith in the Doctrine and Covenants Mr. Gardner spoke about in his article. Please pray for the Mormons who read their Ensigns, and will question the multiple contradictions it contains.
