Orson Pratt’s False Prophecy; Satan Won

07 January

Orson PrattJournal of Discourses 13:125; “Jesus made his appearance on the earth in the meridian of time, and he established his kingdom on the earth. But to fulfill ancientsalt lake mormon temple 2prophecies the Lord suffered that kingdom to be uprooted; in other words, the kingdoms of this world made war against the kingdom of God, established eighteen centuries ago, and they prevailed against it, and the kingdom ceased to exist. The great beast that John saw made war with it and prevailed against it, and human institutions, without prophets or inspired men, usurped the place of the ancient kingdom of God.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, April 10, 1870

Matthew 16:18; “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Orson Pratt had been in the Church for forty years by the time he delivered this speech at the General Conference in 1870.

His speech is an example of how long these men kept telling the same lies year after year. When you’re listening to this year in, and year out, with no other resource from which to gauge the validity of what’s being said, you have the recipe for a perfect climate on brainwashing.

The result of this isn’t just the wrong information that’s wedded into your thought life, but the attitude to go along with it. It seeps into your very being, and I know this from personal experience. Once the negative thoughts and feelings are embedded into your psyche, it’s most difficult to disengage yourself from it.

I’ve never been able to come up with a good adjective to rightly describe the level of hatred I held in my heart towards Christians. Because of the many years I listened to the lies, I adopted a most undesirable attitude towards the body of Christ. The only way I’ve been able to describe my hatred for them is to compare it with the hatred radical Muslims have towards Westerners. I used to say that I’d rather drive over one of them, than speak to one.

To say that it was a heavy load to carry would be an understatement. Ugh. Even 22+ years later, I still remember how awful it was. When God saved me from my insanity, the load became lighter, albeit there were bumps along the way that God had to iron out of me. Whenever I say I still can’t believe He saved me, of all people, that is what I’m referring to!

Although my example today may sound extreme, it’s not uncommon to hear from other ex-Mormons who’ve experienced the same thing. Pray for them won’t you? It’s of vital import for the Christians to witness, even when things seem like a lost cause! You never know – you might be witnessing to the next person who starts a ministry!
