Non-existent BoM Currency

16 June

As you read through our LDS reference today, remember to heed Paul’s warning!

“But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.” — 1 Timothy 4:7

Joseph Smith’s explanation of the Nephite currency is a ruse. Like events in the Hollywood movie ‘National Treasure’, the Book of Mormon sends readers on endless trails of secret meanings, and ‘it might be here’ scenarios. If you look at just one more thing…

Alma 11:4-19 “Now these are the names of the different pieces of their gold, and of their silver, according to their value. And the names are given by the Nephites, for they did not reckon after the manner of the Jews who were at Jerusalem; neither did they measure after the manner of the Jews; but they altered their reckoning and their measure, according to the minds and the circumstances of the people, in every generation, until the reign of the judges, they having been established by king Mosiah.

5 Now the reckoning is thus—a senine of gold, a seon of gold, a shum of gold, and a limnah of gold.

6 A senum of silver, an amnor of silver, an ezrom of silver, and an onti of silver.

7 A senum of silver was equal to a senine of gold, and either for a measure of barley, and also for a measure of every kind of grain.

8 Now the amount of a seon of gold was twice the value of a senine.

9 And a shum of gold was twice the value of a seon.

10 And a limnah of gold was the value of them all.

11 And an amnor of silver was as great as two senums.

12 And an ezrom of silver was as great as four senums.

13 And an onti was as great as them all.

14 Now this is the value of the lesser numbers of their reckoning—

15 A shiblon is half of a senum; therefore, a shiblon for half a measure of barley.

16 And a shiblum is a half of a shiblon.

17 And a leah is the half of a shiblum.

18 Now this is their number, according to their reckoning.

19 Now an antion of gold is equal to three shiblons.”

You, dear reader, deserve to know the BoM scenario above mirrors the Hollywood movie mentioned earlier. Not one coin has ever been found, and nothing ever will be. Even the LDS experts admit this!

MICHAEL COE
In 1973, Michael Coe, a respected and well known authority on the archaeology of the New World, made the following statements concerning the Book of Mormon:

“ ….. Let me now state uncategorically that as far as I know there is not one professionally trained archaeologist, who is not a Mormon, who sees any scientific justification for believing the foregoing to be true, and I would like to state that there are quite a few Mormon archaeologists who join this group ….. The bare facts of the matter are that nothing, absolutely nothing, has ever shown up in any New World excavation which would suggest to a dispassionate observer that the Book of Mormon, as claimed by Joseph Smith, is a historical document relating to the history of early migrants to our hemisphere.” (Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought, Summer 1973, pp. 41, 42, 46)

By and large, Ancient American civilizations like the Mayan, and Aztec cultures operated on  bartering with each other. Their monetary systemsconsisted of the cocoa bean, and obsidian; a volcanic glass manufactured for beads, and tools.

FYI: Obsidian can be found in numerous colors from black, to a clear aqua blue. Cocoa bean pods have always been plentiful throughout the Central to South American continents.

Ask the Mormon you know why these things aren’t mentioned in the Book of Mormon, and why archaeologists have never unearthed any of the coins spoken of in Alma.

Moreover, what are the true values of any coin mentioned in the BoM?

With love and patience, ask the Mormon you know if they can answer any of the questions we’ve listed here.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
