Mormon’s Greatest Hope is in Themselves, not the Blood of Their Namesake

28 November

General Conference, ‘The Atonement Our Greatest Hope,’ October 2001; “Our salvation depends on believing in and accepting the Atonement. Such acceptance requires a continual effort to understand it more fully.” – James Faust

Ephesians 1:7; “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace”.

The 2,211 word speech Mr. Faust delivered could have been summed up in the ten words from that first sentence listed above.

It’s abundantly clear that they don’t believe Jesus’ spilt blood, and subsequent death, had any effect on their salvation.

True salvation comes with knowing there’s absolutely nothing you can do to be saved. Your only hope is in Christ alone! This is reminiscent of an article I saw in the Huffington Post about this very thing.

‘In Christ Alone’ Dropped From Presbyterian Church Hymnal Over Lyric Dispute And Scriptural Debate

The article link speaks of something the Lord warns us about as time goes on. People don’t always want to know the whole truth. With the whole truth comes the acceptance of all of who God is, not just the warm fuzzy parts.

I learned a lesson from my dear friend Ed while working with him at Saints Alive. He always used Galatians 2:20-21 as part of his closing signature. That simple thing prompted me to investigate further to find out what it meant.

Galatians 2:20-21 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”

This branch of the body of Christ didn’t want the phrase ‘the wrath of God was satisfied’ in their hymnal, and tried to talk writers into rewriting it. When they refused, the church dropped the hymn.

I have friends in the Presbyterian Church, and have spoken at a few of their churches, so I’m praying their leadership will revisit their decision, and soon!

This topic is about accepting all of who God is, and if we’re not crucified with Him, then who pray tell are we crucified to? The link below is a great 3 minute video of this beautiful hymn, along with the lyrics.

In Christ Alone

In closing beloved, it doesn’t matter which Christian church you belong to, what matters is that you speak all of the truth, all of the time! Mormons would do themselves well by taking note…

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
