Mormons on Facebook

02 December

“It’s just so refreshing to see that Life After Ministries’ main purpose is to bash another religion. How Christian of you. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. If the tables were turned, you would be so offended, but you are obviously not too worried about causing offense and harm to a targeted religion. It’s at least good to know that that targeted religion isn’t treating you that way. Very classy of you, Life After Ministries, very classy.” – Anita

mailbagThe comment above was in response to an article (Testifying of Joe Smith) that we posted onFacebook this past weekend. The reason we’re reposting this Mormon’s reaction on our sites is to ask our Christian prayer warriors to hit their knees!

While this woman’s reaction may seem over the top to some, her response is exactly the way I used to behave as a Mormon. The only difference is the vocabulary – hers was clean and my tongue back then usually wasn’t.  Both stand as a testament to what’s in the heart.

I can assure this dear woman that when I was LDS I was offended, just as she is today. In the height of my defending Joe Smith and the Church it never occurred to me that I should stop to think about the ‘anti-Mormon’ info sparking my anger. All I saw or heard was the attack I felt was leveled at me personally. Everything I did was reactionary and wasn’t based on factual evidence to further my cause.

When I finally began comparing the ‘anti’ info I realized straightaway I was in the wrong. The irony in all this is what the ‘anti’ info consisted of; the Bible and my Book of Mormon.

I want to make something clear about all the witnessing and posting of articles, etc. I do not advocate bashing Mormons or being rude. When I was LDS I wouldn’t even consider the info someone presented if they hurled insults at me personally.

The info I did accept came from people who gave me facts in a straightforward manner. They’d tell me what the Lord had to say about a situation and then ask me to compare it with what my heritage taught.

I do admit that I was hesitant with the new info and rejected it countless times – and I didn’t just reject it for a short period of time. This went on with numerous friends and acquaintances all over the world for almost 13 years!

In the end, those who witnessed to me weren’t present when I accepted the Lord.  I approached a complete stranger standing in my neighbor’s yard and asked her what she knew about Jesus.  I mustered enough courage to ask because I noticed she was wearing a cross necklace which is something no Mormon would ever wear.

While all that sounds nicely packaged, real life usually doesn’t go so smoothly. The reason for this is because Mormons reject any info that presents Mormonism in a bad light. It doesn’t matter if the info comes from their own works, the way it’s presented is the key element in whether or not it’s considered ‘anti’.

This seems like an uphill battle that can’t be won doesn’t it? Well it isn’t! God’s word never comes back void – Isaiah 55:11 – and God is faithful! His word tells us He wants all to be saved – 1 Timothy 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9.  It may seem daunting at times and feel as if you’re not accomplishing anything, but take comfort dear one! God is the one that saves, not us. Our job is to plant seeds. The Holy Spirit causes the growth – 1 Corinthians 3:6 and our job is to obey as Jesus told us to do in Matthew 28:18-20.

Way Back When…

Last week I was rummaging through family photos and came across a diary I kept in my childhood. Flipping through the pages I was reminded of a recurring event. When I was around 9 years old I began asking God that if He’d send my family to heaven He could take my salvation. I noticed that I wrote the same prayer 15 times over the course of 8+ years.

This glimpse at my past reminds me of the care and concern I still hold in my heart for not only my family, but all Mormons whom I consider to be ‘my people’. My heart grieves daily for the predicament they’re in.

It wasn’t until I became a Christian and studying His word that I found out the Apostle Paul held the same feelings in his heart for the Jewish people. It’s heartbreaking to think upon their spiritual lives and sometimes we as Christians want to say just the right thing to ‘make them believe’, alas, that won’t work!

Romans 9:1-3;

“I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, 2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. 3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh”.

Above all else I want for the Mormon people to know Christ Jesus and Him crucified. This isn’t a game I play, nor is it an agenda to degrade someone. I founded this ministry to share the truth and show Mormons in a comprehensive manner that Jesus truly cares for them.

While it is indeed offensive to those who don’t know Him, the offense comes from the guilt of being a sinner, not because I wrote a few words on a website.

1 Corinthians 1:23; “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty”.

To Anita – know that we’re praying for you and we mean that in all sincerity. I have no ambition to degrade the Mormon people. Our mission is to preach Christ and expose the lies of Mormon doctrine. You’re a person, not a doctrine.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
