Why Mormons Can’t Observe Pentecost

01 November

Acts 2:1-4; “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

What’s the cost of observing Pentecost?

Imagine being a self-proclaimed Christian, and yet not knowing about most of the Jewish holidays, or the Christian holidays/observances listed in the Bible.

That scenario is reality for the majority of Mormons who’ve been strictly taught what they must do to be saved, and what church authorized books they can read.

I grew up in Utah Mormonism totally clueless about biblical events such as Good Friday, Pentecost, Passover, etc. Sadly, given my experience, I wasn’t alone.

I had never learned how God had mandated His chosen people, the Israelites, to attend seven feasts and festivals at specific times throughout the year, let alone knowing that each carried a specific meaning.

This is the crux of the many problems Mormon people face each day. They’re kept so busy with a laundry list of meaningless man-made rules, it leaves little time in the day to think of other things.

In short, those busy things serve as the answer to the title of our article today.

Mormons can’t observe Pentecost for a handful of reasons, but they all add up to one thing. They’ve not been taught God’s HS was prophesied about, and promised to believers. They don’t know the HS arrived 50 days after Passover, hence the term, ‘Pentecost’.

Joel 2:28-32; “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. 32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.”

On the very day Israel was celebrating the traditional Pentecost they’d always done, God fulfilled His Promise in Joel 2:28-32.

They don’t know the Holy Spirit is God Himself, and aren’t taught the significance of what happened that day in an upper room in Jerusalem.

Joseph Smith prophesied God’s Holy Spirit couldn’t reside inside man, so Mormons are fed a diet of lies by leaders on how to invite the Spirit’s presence through certain tasks. Regrettably, they’re also taught that if you sin, God’s Spirit goes away. Here’s what Joseph Smith claimed about God’s Holy Spirit –

Reason #1 Why Mormons Can’t Observe Pentecost

God and Jesus dwelling in man’s heart is a false, sectarian notion…

Doctrine and Covenants 130:3, 22-23; “John 14:23—The appearing of the Father and the Son, in that verse, is a personal appearance; and the idea that the Father and the Son dwell in a man’s heart is an old sectarian notion, and is false.

22 The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us. 23 A man may receive the Holy Ghost, and it may descend upon him and not tarry with him.”

Reason #2 Why Mormons Can’t Observe Pentecost

Brigham Young taught that if Jesus was begotten by the Holy Ghost, it’d be dangerous to baptize and confirm females, lest he [the HS] get them pregnant. Journal of Discourses 1:51 –

“Now remember from this time forth, and for ever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. I will repeat a little anecdote. I was in conversation with a certain learned professor upon this subject, when I replied, to this idea—“if the Son was begotten by the Holy Ghost, it would be very dangerous to baptize and confirm females, and give the Holy Ghost to them, lest he should beget children, to be palmed upon the Elders by the people, bringing the Elders into great difficulties.”” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, April 9, 1852

Reason #3 Why Mormons Can’t Observe Pentecost

God’s Holy Spirit is not God.

According to Joseph Smith, the Holy Ghost is still waiting to take himself a body so he can lay it down like Jesus did. See Mormon Dilemma 544.

If they knew the truth, they’d have to say goodbye to their culture of a beehive mindset in trying to perfect themselves instead of allowing God to change their hearts as it tells us in 2 Cor. 5:21. When a man/woman becomes a new creature in Christ we then witness the fruits of the Holy Spirit Paul speaks of in Galatians 5:22-23.

The Bible tells us that God pours out His Spirit on those who put their faith in Jesus and then we become His disciples. Romans 8:1-11.

His Spirit binds us together as believers (1 Cor 12:12-13), but Mormonism divides. See ‘How Mormonism Attacks Christianity’.

The Holy Spirit helps us to pray (Romans 8:26), intercedes to the Father on our behalf (Romans 8:27), but Mormons are taught not to use His name too much because it’s ‘irreverent’. Doctrines of Salvation 1:16, Joseph Fielding Smith.

In conclusion, God’s Holy Spirit takes up residence inside of each individual believer transforming us into a temple for God. 1 Cor 3:16, 1 Cor 6:19. Mormons, however, have a temple they worship, and don’t truly believe God is omnipresent, even though they sometimes teach otherwise.

Our prayer is for Mormons to denounce the false prophecies and teachings of this institution, and invite Jesus into their hearts so God’s Holy Spirit will take up residence inside of them!

Mormons can’t observe Pentecost because the god they worship isn’t the God of the Bible, who in fact is Christ Jesus and Him crucified.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
