Mormons Baptize Parents of Simon Wiesenthal in Secret Ceremony

“We are outraged that such insensitive actions continue in the Mormon temples,” Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the Wiesenthal Center’s associate dean, said in a statement on the group’s website. “Such actions make a mockery of the many meetings with the top leadership of the Mormon church.”

The statement above is the reaction of the Wiesenthal Center’s dean in response to the inappropriate actions by members of the Mormon Church last month.

The Church has been in numerous meetings with Jewish leaders in the past several years and have promised they’d stop baptizing dead Jewish people, so how did this happen…again?

According to Church officials they’ve taken the appropriate actions to the latest “mistake” by cutting off access to the genealogy records of the person who did this and issued an immediate apology yesterday (2/13/2011) to the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

Honestly people, really? If you have anything to do with Mormonism either by having a passing interest to being an active member, you’ll know about the Mormons baptizing deceased Jews and Holocaust victims. And as a Mormon you’d know not to do this.  This latest incident was done by those who simply don’t care about the Jewish people. Or maybe it’s because they don’t know anything about Judaism and consider themselves to be the true Jews? Why would you keep doing this considering the past history between the Mormons and Jews?

Just a few short years ago the Church issued a worldwide bulletin to members not to baptize anyone you don’t personally know or were not related to.  This also meant you weren’t to be baptized for deceased Jewish people, especially those you don’t know. Special permission would have to be granted for circumstances outside those parameters.

And posthumously baptizing Simon Wiesenthal’s parents? Come on people.

When are they going to realize there are people in this world that don’t want anything to do with Mormonism and it’s not because they’re picking on them? Rather, people just so happen to have their own heritage and culture and are quite content. FYI: this is not discrimination or intolerance.

With Love in Christ;
