Mormonism: Today’s Doubting Thomas

27 March

John 20:25 “ The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

If you know anything about Mormonism you’ve most certainly heard the phrase, ‘Of course we’re Christian, Jesus’ name is in the title of our church’.

Many may questioned why anyone would doubt their claim of being a Christian organization because of how ‘nice’ they seem to be outwardly, along with their clean-cut appearance. For sure, they do seem like someone you could write home about.

Aside from all the claims they’ve made about being a Christian organization from Joe Smith onward, Christians can be assured Mormons aren’t speaking truth based on one thing an LDS apostle said.

Ensign, Nov. 2007, p 40; “…our view of the Godhead breaks with post–New Testament Christian history… ” – Jeffrey R. Holland

Just so there’s no misunderstanding, this wasn’t the first time a leader of their church said such a thing. In no uncertain terms, their prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, explicitly told a worldwide audience the Jesus of Mormonism is not the Jesus of Christianity –

LDS Church News Week ending June 20, 1998, p. 7; “In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints ‘do not believe in the traditional Christ.’ ‘No, I don’t. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. He together with His Father, appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in the year 1820, and when Joseph left the grove that day, he knew more of the nature of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages.’”

As we go throughout this holy week, be sure to save time out of your day to share the good news with them! If they don’t qualify as a doubting Thomas, no one ever will.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
