Mormon Prophet’s Lies to Children: Jesus Paid for Sins in Gethsemane

01 April

The LDS references below came from a March 2019 article in The Friend Magazine.

In case you’re unaware, this monthly periodical is written for an audience of young kids ages 3 – 12.

The article had two parts to it, if you will. Both were written by their prophet, Russell M. Nelson. The first part was a brief message to the kids, and the other was an image with other notes. Their remarks and links for both are included below.

Friend, ‘God’s Great Gift,’ April 2019 “God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to help us. He did that because He loves us so much. Jesus came to redeem us. Because of His Atonement, we can be resurrected after we die. Because of His Atonement, we can return to live with Heavenly Father forever. Jesus explained:

“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die” (John 11:25–26).

For this wonderful message of Easter, we give thanks to God!

[in the image were the following remarks made by Mr. Nelson]

redeem: pay for our sins so we can return to God

Atonement: when Jesus suffered for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane and died on the cross at Calvary.”

Taking Mr. Nelson’s comments into consideration, we have a few questions/comments —

1.Everyone will be resurrected Mr. Nelson. Good, or bad, all people will be resurrected.

John 5:28-29 “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”

Acts 24:15 “And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.”

2.Using John 11:25-26 is disingenuous. Here’s what this passage says —

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”

Mormons don’t believe in the Jesus of the Bible. so why would His words be of any merit to them? Here’s what Mormonism teaches about Jesus –

Jesus, Mormons Worship a Different The Living Christ, Ensign, May 1977, p. 26 “It is true that many of the Christian churches worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshiped by the Mormons or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For example, from the Church of England’s Articles of Religion, article one, I quote: “There is but one living God, everlasting, without body, parts, or passions.”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worships a God and a Jesus Christ with bodies, with parts, and with passions. We also believe that the trinity of the Godhead is made up of three separate personages—God, the Eternal Father; Jesus Christ, the Son of God—our Savior; and the Holy Ghost. These two concepts of the Trinity and their attributes are completely different.” – Bernard P. Brockbank, First Quorum of the Seventy

3.You can’t ‘return’ to God, Mr. Nelson. Mankind wasn’t with God in heaven before his/her birth. 1 Corinthians 15:44-47.

4.Moreover, our dear sweet Jesus didn’t pay for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane. My heart breaks each time I see them use this fallacious lie from Joe Smith’s ‘prophecies’. See D&C 19:18.

You’ll notice how Mr. Nelson unapologetically lied by stating Jesus paid for sins in Gethsemane, and without skipping a beat stated He died on a cross.

Telling someone they believe Jesus is their redeemer, and He died on a cross, has a totally different meaning for Mormons than it does for everyone else in the world.

Once again, they’ve mixed a little bit of truth in with their horrific lies. It’s bad enough they trick adults, but it’s even worse when they do this to little kids. Remember, their audience includes kids who are 3-12 yrs. old.

Shame on Mr. Nelson, and those who help him spread this dangerous gospel.

Please, pray for those who read their magazine, including their parents!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
