Mormon False Prophecy: Saints Didn’t Move Back to Missouri

27 August

Journal of Discourses 13:362; “God promised in the year 1832 that we should, before the generation then living had passed away, return and build up the City of Zion in Jackson County.” — Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, May 5, 1870

Ephesians 4:14-15; “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.”

Well, like we’ve said many times before; now what?

Orson Pratt made this announcement almost forty years after the original prophecy, and the Saints were still firmly rooted in Salt Lake. He died in 1881, and didn’t live to see the day when they’d all move back to the original ‘promised land’.

Strangely enough, rumors and hushed voices of the Saints marching back to Missouri could still be heard in Utah Mormonism when I grew up in the 60’s-70’s.
