Mormon Dilemmas 12

Multiple Identities of Noah

Answers to Gospel Questions  3: 138-141; Elias Is Noah…Summarizing the facts—Joseph Smith revealed that Gabriel was Noah; Luke declared that it was the angel Gabriel who appeared to Zacharias and Mary; and the Lord has declared that Elias appeared to Zacharias and Joseph Smith. Therefore, Elias is Noah.

Holman Dictionary of the Bible; The son of Lamech, a descendant of Adam in the line of Seth, and a survivor of the flood. A good and righteous man, Noah was the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth who were born when he was 500 years old.

Luke 1:17-19; And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. 18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.  19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

I had to read the Mormon teaching above several times before I finally gave up and realized it’s impossible to figure it out.  This is just another way to confuse the members.

This type of teaching proves time and again to be the catalyst for those who leave the Church.  It’s a dilemma indeed why they’d allow people to teach these things and even more confusing is why people believe it.

Only those who hate God likes to cause confusion.

Confusion only come when one does not understand the meaning and use of the name Elias.

On a simple understanding it is the Greek form or Elijah (which is why some have taught that John the Baptist was Elijah, and thus fulfilled the prophecy of Malachi).

However, when one understands that Elias refers not to an individual, but to a calling of preparation or restoration, than it becomes apparent what is meant by the verses of Luke and what is meant when it is declared that Noah is Elias.
John the Baptist went forth in the Spirit and Power of Elias; or he went forth having the calling to prepare the way for Christ.
Noah (or Gabriel) who heralded the coming of Christ and birth of John the Baptist was also called to restore keys in this last dispensation, and so the title has been applied to him.

Of course this is all explained in the Bible Dictionary printed with every copy of the Bible that the LDS church produces, and available online at scriptures.lds.org. As such if there is any confusion it comes from not properly searching out the information.

“As such if there is any confusion it comes from not properly searching out the information.” I know! That’s the great about the internet people can easily find out the truth about Mormonism with just a few clicks on the screen. And the most damning information won’t come from the critics and ministries it will come from the Mormons themselves as we’ve clearly shown on this blog. – Melissa Grimes

If it is so easy for them to find the truth why do you insist on making things more difficult by posting untruths?

Name one thing on this blog that is untrue. You may not like the way we present the truth and you may not like that we’re even doing this, but there is nothing on this blog that is a lie. To infer otherwise is disingenuous.
